Original Creation Story
( 400-500 words)
28 September 2005
Having read the two creation stories in Genesis 1–3, write your own story
of creation. It can be universal (about the entire cosmos) or particular (about
a particular sector, species, or people), involve one deity or many, as long as
it follows the basic form of an origins myth (as outlined below).
Common features of origin stories:
- a primitive chaos, undifferentiated universe, or nothingness
- a deity or deities as active agents; if more than one deity, sometimes a divine
warfare theme, with the bodily remains of a primordial being or deity becoming
the raw material for creation
- separation of undifferentiated matter into distinct realities (e.g., separation
of sea from earth and sky)
- one or several stages in establishment of order, with creation of human beings
by divine beings as distinct phase

that need to be included in your own creation story.
