Introduction to the First Testament (RL 200)
Fall 2005
last update 12 September 2005

Course Schedule (8/30-12/08/2005)

Nota Bene: A close reading of the primary (i.e., BIBLE) texts assigned for class discussion is the first priority. This syllabus may be revised upon consultation with the class and as circumstances demand. Reading assignments vary for different weeks of the course; some are heavier and other weeks are lighter. I encourage you to read ahead during the lighter weeks to make it easier on yourself when the reading schedule is more demanding.

I: TOOLS FOR FIRST TESTAMENT STUDY
II: THE ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN CONTEXT OF THE FIRST TESTAMENT: MARDUK v. MONOTHEISM
III: A CHOSEN PEOPLE, A COVENANT NATION
IV: THE WRITINGS: WISDOM & WORSHIP
