FIELD RESEARCH

There are four field research assignments in conjunction with this class:

  1. Visit religious sites in Jerusalem (viaWWW or CD-ROM)
  2. Investigate the collections of early Christian and Islamic art at the Cleveland Museum of Art
  3. Tour Temple Emanu El and attend their Líchvod Ha-Torah seminar
  4. Tour the Mosque in Parma and attend one of their weekly services
While some of these events will take us beyond our regular class periods--and I know it is difficult to coordinate such things given your busy schedules--previous students have given them rave reviews. They provide an opportunity for the members of the class to get to know each other in a less structured setting, and to gain first-hand knowledge of the religious traditions which we will study. And it isn't so bad getting credit for eating, going on tours or to a Museum. If you find you have an unavoidable conflict with one of the Field Research dates, contact me as soon as possible so we can work out an alternate date or assignment.

A brief reaction paper (2-3 pp) is required for each of these field research projects.  Check here for how-to hints.  Also, more details are available through these links:

  1. Virtual Jerusalem Tour reaction paper
  2. Cleveland Museum of Art field trip reaction paper
  3. Líchvod Ha-Torah seminar reaction paper
  4. Mosque field trip reaction paper
