D

This seminar is designated a Diversity (D) course in the undergraduate Core Curriculum because it introduces students to the alternative world views and life ways that form the basis of social life for populations such as the homeless, racial or ethnic minorities, the elderly, the physically or mentally challenged, and other marginalized populations. The practicum involves direct service work with one or more of these populations, while the coursework includes such tasks as description and analysis of the issues and processes of marginalization, analysis of the group's status in the larger society, and/or comparison with other populations. They will seek to examine not only differences between these populations and others, but also diversity within these populations.
