A Study Tour of Ancient Syria (with Sts. Peter, Paul,
Matthew & Co.)
Contact Dr. McGinn for further information
This course will explore the history of early Christianity in Syria and Eastern Asia Minor, through readings, lectures, and visits to the actual places that were most significant to this development.
Syria hosts many of the most ancient sites for the study of Christianity. The study tour will include more than twenty-five historic sites in three countries (Lebanon, Syria, Turkey), which were all once part of "Ancient Syria."
Students will have on-site lectures about early Christian cities, including Antioch, Damascus, Edessa, and Palmyra; be introduced to Jesus' own language, Aramaic, as it still is spoken today; hear lectures not only from Dr. McGinn, but also from such well-known experts as Robin Jensen, William Tabbernee, and many others.
The course is open to both graduate students and undergraduates. Non-JCU students may participate on a Continuing Education basis. There is an additional course travel fee of $2500 per person plus airfare. Look here for important facts for the traveler, and answers to frequently asked questions.
