Who Was the Historical Jesus?

	There are as many answers to this question as there are people who are willing to answer it. For the past 300 years, scholars have conducted a search for Jesus' true words, deeds, and identity. Through this search, a variety of portraits of Jesus have emerged. Some see him as a counter-cultural Cynic sage dedicated to radical egalitarianism; others as a charismatic prophet, sage, and healer who called his fellow Jews to a new ethos of compassion; still others hold to the traditional view of Christianity and believe that Jesus was and is the Son of God who came to save humanity from its sin.
