Welcome to the University Core Curriculum in the Liberal Arts.  We believe that education at John Carroll should be more than vocational training.  We are dedicated to educating the whole person, so that our students can become thoughtful and effective members of their community and the world.  Informed by our Jesuit heritage and aimed at the needs of the modern world, the Core Curriculum promotes the development of essential skills of written and oral expression, critical thinking, and quantitative analysis.  The Core expands students’ horizons through coursework that focuses on international cultures, languages, and marginalized populations. It encourages students to examine the fullness of human experience as expressed in literature, philosophy, and religious traditions.  Finally, the Core exposes students to a variety of approaches to solving problems, from the scientific method to historical analysis.  We believe that this breadth of knowledge and methods will best equip our students to face the all challenges that await them.
