Q. What scholarships are available?
A. Most merit scholarships from John Carroll University do not require separate applications. Students who apply for admission are automatically looked at for possible merit consideration. For a complete list of scholarships available, please click on the Afford tab.

Q. What financial aid programs are available to attend JCU?
A. Approximately 75% of the students receive need-based financial aid at John Carroll. The university offers need-based grants, merit scholarships, loans, and work-study programs. For a complete list of scholarships available, please click on the Afford tab.

Q. How do I apply for financial aid?
A. John Carroll recommends that all admitted students file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the United States Department of Education. This form is available starting each December in high school guidance offices or on-line at fafsa.ed.gov. Forms cannot be submitted to the Department of Education until January 1 of the year you intend to enroll. For best results, JCU encourages prospective freshmen to file the FAFSA anytime before March 1. Most merit scholarships from John Carroll University do not require separate applications. Students who apply for admission are automatically looked at for possible merit consideration.

Q. I was selected for verification. What does that mean?
A. The federal government requires all universities to verify 1/3 of all financial aid applicants. If you are randomly selected, the John Carroll Office of Financial Aid will request appropriate tax documents and forms. Please do not send tax information unless it is requested.

Q. What if my family earnings or expenses have dramatically changed since the last tax year?
A. The Office of Financial Aid has the ability to revise an application and award for financial aid based on special circumstances. In situations of unusual or special circumstances, families are asked to complete a form through the Office of Financial Aid and provide appropriate documentation.

Q. What is the tuition to attend John Carroll University?
A. Tuition for a full-time undergraduate student is a flat-rate between 12-18 credit hours. For the 2007-2008 year, full-time tuition is $26,144. There is also a Student Activity Fee of $290 for the year.

Q. What is the cost of living on campus?
A. The cost of room and board for the 2007-2008 year is $7,790.

Q. Is financial aid renewable each year?
A. Grants and scholarships from John Carroll are renewable for 3 years, as long as the student meets the requirements for renewal, which differ for each grant or scholarship. The awarding of federal or state grants, loans, or work-study programs is based on filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Q. Are jobs available on campus?
A. Yes, jobs are available on campus for those awarded federal work-study in their financial aid award packages. The university sponsors a job fair the first week of fall classes, where students awarded work-study can select a job on campus. Typically, students work 6-8 hours a week, and they receive a pay check every 2 weeks.

Q. When is financial aid awarded?
A. Merit scholarship award notifications usually are sent out to recipients shortly after they receive their admission decision. Complete financial aid award packages will start being mailed by the Office of Financial Aid usually in late February.
