Q. Will my credits transfer in to John Carroll University?
A. Credits will transfer if they are received from an accredited college or university and you received a "C" or better in the course. No credit will be given for classes in university orientation, applied arts or technical training.

Q. What if I have earned an Associates degree?
A. At John Carroll, classes are transferred individually. We will do a course-by-course transcript evaluation to determine your transfer credit amounts.

Q. Does JCU offer transfer scholarships?
A. John Carroll offers the President's Honors Award in the amount of $5,000 to $7,000 to transfer students with a 3.0 GPA or better. John Carroll Grants may be available to students based on need and grade point average. To see a complete listing of transfer financial aid, please visit the Afford tab on this site.

Q. When do I register for classes?
A. Students entering in the spring semester will attend a mandatory orientation held in January. Our transfer students entering in the fall semester will attend one orientation in either June or August. You will register for classes at orientation.

Q. Can I live in the residence halls? Are there single rooms available?
A. Yes, we do have residence hall rooms available for transfer students. There are very few single rooms; however, if you do request one and it is available, you will be given one.

Q. I applied as a freshman and received a financial aid award. Can I receive the same award amount?
A. If you apply to John Carroll as a transfer student within the same academic year, your original financial aid award will be reinstated. If you apply for transfer admission for a different academic year, a new financial aid award will be created for you.

Q. How do I schedule a campus visit/interview with a transfer advisor? What do I need to bring to the interview?
A. In order to schedule an interview, please register at www.jcu.edu/visit. We do not require that you bring anything to the interview. If you would like to bring a list of the courses you are currently taking at your university and/or copies of past transcripts, we can give you more information about transfer credits.

Q. Is there a deadline for applying?
A. There is no "absolute" deadline for transfer students, but we do ask that you send in your information as a soon as possible for the semester in which you are applying. This is particularly important for students interested in financial aid.

Q. Can I bring a car on campus?
A. Because of the limited parking availability, on-campus parking permits are issued on an as-available basis. JCU also has a remote lot with a shuttle that will take you to campus. All commuter students are eligible for parking permits.

Q. Am I able to join a Fraternity/Sorority as a transfer student? What are your national chapters?
A. Yes, many of our transfer students become involved in sororities and fraternities. They are a great way to meet other students on campus. We have 4 national fraternities: Beta Theta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Phi Epsilon; and 5 national sororities: Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Q. How do I get a job on campus?
A. In order to be a part of our work-study program on campus, you must fill out the section on the FAFSA form that asks if you would be interested in a Work-Study program. If you are granted this funding, you will attend a job fair the first week of classes at which you will determine the department on campus where you will like to work.

Q. Can I participate in study abroad?
A. Yes, many of our transfer students participate in study abroad programs. You are welcome to visit our Center for Global Education's web site to get more information about the programs we offer.

Q. Can a transfer student get in the honors program?
A. Yes, once you are accepted to the university, you may apply to the Honors Program. For a description of the Honors Program, please click here for more information.

Q. Who will my advisor be after I am a student at JCU?
A. At orientation, you will be assigned an advisor, usually from the field you are interested in, who will answer any questions you may have and register you for classes. It is then your responsibility to set up meeting times throughout the semester with your advisor regarding scheduling and course information.

Q. Are there internships available at John Carroll?
A. Many departments do offer internships for junior and senior students, as well as summer internships for all students. If you would like to work in an internship outside your major, you can contact the Career Center and they will assist you in your search.

Q. If I was academically dismissed from another college may I attend John Carroll?
A. Students who have been dismissed can make an appointment with one of our transfer counselors in order to discuss their situation. However, generally our transfer students must carry a 2.5 GPA in order to attend, and submit a completed transfer reference form.

Q. I was wondering how you evaluated Transfer students applications, and what is the usual GPA for transfers, and if there was anywhere online where you can check the status of your application?
A. We look at the courses which a student has taken and the grade point average achieved. In general, we are looking for evidence of full-time academic courses (languages, math, sciences etc.) and a grade point average of at least 2.5. To check the status of any application, students are encouraged to contact their transfer counselor at (216) 397-4257.
