Quick Facts
John Carroll is a private, coeducational, Catholic and Jesuit university providing programs in the liberal arts, sciences and business at the undergraduate level and in selected areas at the master's level. The university consists of three schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Boler School of Business and the Graduate School. John Carroll operates on a semester calendar, with two 15-week semesters and three summer sessions.
History
John Carroll was founded in 1886 on the west side of Cleveland as St. Ignatius College. In 1923, it adopted the name John Carroll University -- after the first archbishop of the Catholic Church in the United States and the founder of Georgetown University -- and in 1935, it moved from the west side of Cleveland to its current location in University Heights, Ohio. In September of 1968, the all-male school became fully coeducational when the first women were accepted for admission.
