Choosing A Lender

In deciding to utilize a loan program for your John Carroll educational expenses, students and parents must select a lender. All of our loan materials and counseling are lender-neutral; meaning our guidance and advice is strictly educational to give our borrowers practical information in order to make the best decision for their unique situation. JCU's Office of Financial Aid does not benefit in any way from relationships with any lender.

The lenders and loan options presented on our lender list were selected for the excellent terms and benefits they provide to borrowers. Our institution has worked with these lenders in the past, and previous borrowers had positive experiences working with them. Note: You may view the Stafford, PLUS and Private Lender list by clicking on the loan on the left hand side of the page.

To determine which lenders and loan options to present, we use strict criteria based on your interests and not those of our institution. We recognize only those lenders who provide you with exceptional customer service, excellent incentives (e.g., low interest rates, no origination fees, and loan principal reductions), timely processing, and electronic funds transfer capabilities when possible.

It is important to note that John Carroll will process a loan from any lender. We provide a lender list as a courtesy to families to have a starting point in the lender selection process. The Office of Financial Aid reviews this list on a yearly basis to ensure the lenders are still offering the best products to our student and parent borrowers. This list is simply a recommendation based on quality of the service provided to our students and the volume of our students that select these vendors.
