John Carroll Patriot Award

John Carroll University is proud to welcome our returning U.S. veterans to campus.  We are excited to announce the newly created John Carroll Patriot Award to veterans that are utilizing the G.I. Bill. Through a combination of this award, the new G.I. Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program, any U.S. veteran may be able to attend John Carroll University virtually tuition-free.

All veterans must meet university admission requirements and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The new G.I. Bill benefits along with the John Carroll sponsored U.S. Patriot Award (estimated at up to $8,100 for 2009-2010) and the Veteran Affairs sponsored Yellow Ribbon (matching funds) program will make a quality John Carroll education affordable for our Veterans.

The new GI Bill that was signed into law on June 30, 2008 will replace the Montgomery GI Bill and helps veterans earn a college degree. This Post-9/11 GI Bill provides each Veteran with financial assistance up to the cost of tuition at the most expensive public university within the state in which the veteran resides. The current amount for Ohio is presently $477 per credit hour and would be paid directly to the school of choice.

JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY VETERAN INITIATIVE:

U.S. Patriot Award, a university funded scholarship of up to $8,100 a year
(renewable for up to 6 years)
This scholarship will be funded by John Carroll for each year the veteran is enrolled full-time. This award is in addition to the Veteran's GI Bill benefits and may supersede all other John Carroll funding depending on the level of benefit eligibility of the veteran.

The university is also investigating the possibility of alternative housing options near campus for veterans as well as the feasibility of additional institutional funding for housing, books, and related educational expenses.

Please check out our Veterans' Benefits FAQ section for more information.
