Campion Shield The Campion Shield recognizes heroism and bravery on the part of a member of the John Carroll community. Sponsored and funded by the St. Edmund Campion Society of John Carroll University, it thus encourages the individual to act on behalf of others and emulate the Jesuit martyr, St. Edmund Campion. It also affirms the Jesuit ideal of being men and women for others, a principle reinforced in the mission of John Carroll University. The 2009 Campion Shield Honoree is Fred A.
