Class Notes - Summer, 1997

This quarter went by so fast, I cannot believe it is already time to submit another column!  I want to thank everyone that has written me via the World Wide Web lately.  I get the news right away and don't have to remember where I last read the note because it's always stored in my computer.  Also the Internet gives me the opportunity to respond personally to you.  I don't mean to downplay those of you who give the extra effort to write and mail a letter to me--like Carrie Kolp for instance, who just dropped me a line.  She bought a house in Cleveland three years ago and is working at National City Bank in the marketing department where she is responsible for advertising their mutual funds. Carrie is also taking graphics classes and plans to start an MBA program at Baldwin-Wallace soon.  Thanks again for the note, Carrie . . . Heather Flett wrote me via the Internet to let me know she will be graduating in June with her master's degree from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration . . .

Mark Schreiner has been very busy in upstate New York as a reporter at several daily newspapers since graduating.  Currently he is working at The Leader in Corning, New York, where he covers city politics.  Mark has also won several awards: a second place award for breaking news coverage in the 1997 New York State Associated Press Association Writing Contest, an honorable mention in the same contest for an investigative project on problems at the local county jail, and a first place award given to The Leader by the New York Newspaper Publishers Association for their coverage of the LPGA Corning Classic . . . Doug Ennis wrote to let us know that he is getting married August 1 to his girlfriend Sandy, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.  They will be relocating to Denver in September.  Also Doug was promoted to systems manager for the Chicago office of Phoenix Duff & Phelps at the end of last year . . . I received an e-mail from Christopher Hoag and he is currently living in Washington, DC and going to school for his Ph.D. in church history at the Catholic University of America.  He works in the development office there, and also as a receptionist at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on weekends. Lastly, Chris tries to travel home to Cleveland at least once a month where he can be found hanging out at the Phantasy and Chamber night clubs in Lakewood . . .

Laura (Napoli) Kelly e-mailed me an update on herself and husband, Ed '91.  They are in Culver, Indiana, where Ed is teaching and coaching basketball.  Laura has taken a job at the school as the assistant director of Educational Technology.  She maintains all of the educational computers and faculty computers, trains students and faculty on software, tests new software to determine if it is beneficial for the school to use and creates Web pages. Laura was also the head diving coach last season . . . Pam Herrera got engaged last november to Scott Ferraro; they are getting married September 20, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  Both Laura and Ed are in the wedding party.  Thanks for the update, Laura . . . John Hogan is back from his assignment with Price Waterhouse in Hong Kong and has since started a new job at General Electric in Cleveland on their Global Systems Team . . . Joe Gumeny started working for Price Waterhouse at the end of last year in their Consulting Group.  He recently completed his training, which was in Tampa, Florida, and has been placed on a project in Cleveland . . .

Chris Campbell was promoted to senior staff consultant for Howard, Wershbale & Co. in Cleveland at the end of last year . . . Brian Kurtz moved from Dean Witter to McDonald and Company Securities as an Investment Consultant last fall . . . The editor's office received a "Stay In Touch" from Christin M. Bucci letting us know that she attended Case Western Reserve University Law School from '93-96 and passed both the Ohio Bar and the CPA exam in '96.  She started her own law practice in Beachwood, Ohio . . . I ran into Donna Clifford recently at a local restaurant  She is living in South Euclid with her sister . . . Well, that's all the news I have for now.  I hope to hear from you all soon, even by phone.  Just a reminder that Reunion Weekend is right around the corner and all classes are welcome, so come out to campus June 19-21 and join in the after-dinner fun.  Take care and keep in touch . . . Julie.
