Wrestling has enjoyed a strong and legendary tradition since its start forty years ago. There has never been a varsity sport at John Carroll University that has enjoyed the continuous success at a national, regional or a conference level that our wrestling program has experienced. Under the leadership of Tony DeCarlo and Kerry Volkmann our teams have consistently ranked in the top 25 in the country for Division III wrestling. One National title, two National runners up positions and numerous finishes in the top 10 in the country have been the hallmark of this successful program.

The needs and expectations of our student-athletes for our wrestling practice facility have fallen short the past few years. The current wrestling room lacks a sufficient heating and cooling system, adequate workout space, and natural light with proper ventilation. A move to the larger gym annex will allow the coaches to provide their athletes an improved, more efficient practice area. This area provides natural lighting, the stairway and indoor track for close conditioning areas, a high ceiling for ropes, space to provide an elevated cardio and lifting area and, most importantly, adequate heating/cooling/ventilation.

In order for us to offer improved and safe facilities for our wrestling athletes, it is necessary to make these improvements.
