spring 2008 Name a really fun event that happens only once every five years? Our John Carroll Class Reunion, of course! If you made it to our five-year reunion in 2003, you know what a great time it was - drinking, socializing, drinking, eating, drinking, and reminiscing with old friends! So much has happened since we graduated from John Carroll, including job promotions, advanced degrees, relocations, home purchases, marriages, and births, we have a lot to share with each other this summer. Be sure to mark your calendars for June 20-22. And make sure all your JCU friends are planning to attend, too! And if you have a few hours to help our reunion committee plan the big weekend, contact Theresa Spada at 216.397.3014. The group needs people to telephone classmates to make sure they know about Reunion Weekend, too. ... Congratulations to Dan and Janeece (Anderson) Ansevin who welcomed Ethan Daniel into their lives. Dan and Janeece returned to Cleveland Heights after living in Vermont for several years. Dan finished his neurology residency at Dartmouth and now is doing an epilepsy fellowship at University Hospitals. ... Michele (Leighton) Krajicek and her husband, Bryan, welcomed their second son, Benjamen, into the world last July. They live with two-year old Nathan in Minnesota. Michele is an ER doctor with the Mayo Clinic, where her husband is a fellow. ... Nicole (Damico) Powell is expecting her second baby in April. Nicole, husband Dave and daughter Angelina live in Dublin, Ohio. ... Don and Alexia (Kapeluck) Gardi were married in Cleveland Heights on September 29. A number of John Carroll grads were in the wedding including Beth (Arakaki) Ezzie, Karen Salerno, Alison (Winters) Scolaro, and maid of honor Annie Slota. Lisa Cassidy-Vu attended the wedding with her husband Davis Vu. They both are physicians in Cincinnati, Ohio, and have a little boy named Aidan. Matt and Carrie (Tarantina) Labert also attended. They have two children and reside in Virginia. ... Mike ’01 and Becky (Durica) Kelley are living in Streetsboro, Ohio, with their son Aidan. Mike is a teacher and coaches basketball, and Becky is working for a new company. Dan and Nyla (Abu-Jawdeh) Lambert welcomed baby Alex into the world in April. They have a daughter Rima and live in Hampstead, N.H. ... Ryan Eskridge received his DDS from The Ohio State University in 2002 and now works for North Court Family Dentistry, in Circleville, Ohio. Ryan and his wife, Adessa, live in Ashville, Ohio. ... Please continue to e-mail me your updates so I can share your good news in this column. Can you believe our ten-year reunion is just around the corner?  Just about everyone who emailed me for this column said they are looking forward to seeing all of our classmates at the Reunion.   Make sure your calendars are marked for June, 2008, as the big weekend will be here before we know it!  Our class’ extended family is growing.  Mike ’96 and Lisa (Smith) Olsen welcomed their son Brady to their lives on May 30.  Six-year-old twins Madison and Garrett are in kindergarten at St. Rita in Solon, OH.  The Olsens live in Hudson, where Lisa is a stay-at-home mom, and Mike works as a director of real estate for Katz & Associates…Brian and Amy (Cachet) Koester and big brother Matt, age 2, welcomed William Brian to their family on March 11.  This summer the Koesters moved back home to Cincinnati, OH, after living two years in Grand Rapids, MI…Denny and Ellen (O'Leary) Collins also welcomed another child to their family. Brielle Kathryn was born August 5, joining big sister, Kayleigh, age 3…Drew and Caroline (Kondrat '01) Pollick wanted to be close to family and friends, so after graduating from Boston College in May, they sold their house in Lincoln, RI, and relocated to University Heights, OH, where they now live within sight of John Carroll.  Caroline earned a MA/MSW in Pastoral Ministry and Social Work, and Drew completed his MBA.  Caroline joined the Campus Ministry department at JCU, and Drew is working virtually as the Corporate Compensation Manager for Gilbane Building Company in Providence, RI. During their time in New England, the Pollicks were blessed with a daughter, Clare.  Their son, Michael, was born soon after they moved to Ohio in July.  Drew said they’re looking forward to being a part of the Blue Streak community again…Kate Robinson and Jim Bongiorna were married on June 30 in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  Classmates at the wedding included Lori Szudarek, Chris Beato, Amy Kerner, Sarah Cook and Steve and Chris Wolken.  Other Blue Streaks in attendance included Sheila Sullivan '96, Sharon Sullivan '97, Jamie Morris '97, Meg Galligan '99, Courtney Kaezyk '00, Frank Gibbons '33, Jim Robinson '70, Dave '74 and Molly '75 Robinson, Terry Dwyer '74, Maryann Corrigan Davis '75, and Kate Corrigan Meyers '75. Kate and Jim honeymooned in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Rio de Janeiro, and they now live in New York City. Kate said it’s been a busy year for her, living and traveling around the country with her company RockCorps to engage young people in community service. In the last 12 months she’s lived in Los Angeles and Atlanta.  Now in the Big Apple, she is working on RockCorps’ largest national program that will engage 5,000 volunteers in community service projects throughout the boroughs of New York City.  The project culminates with a concert at Radio City Music Hall in October…Matt and Stephanie Lemieux have two children:  two-year old Samantha and three-month-old Paige.  Matt works in sales for Bristol-Myers Squibb.  They live in Avon, OH…Grant and Renee (Weaver ’99) Varnum had a baby boy, Gavin this past spring…Tim and Karen (DeNiro) Devine live in Strongsville, OH, with their sons, Andrew, age 3, and Adam, 8 months.  Karen teaches Spanish two days a week at her son's preschool.  This summer the Devines vacationed in the Outer Banks with Jim and Caitlin (McKendry) Schneid and their son, Colin, age 2.  The Schneids live in Charlotte, NC, and are hoping to make the move back to Cleveland soon…Dave and Nicole (Damico) Powell recently celebrated their daughter Angelina's second birthday.  The Powells live in Columbus, OH, and are expecting their second child in April…Steve and Kerri (Keenan) Nowicki live in Strongsville, OH, with their three-year-old daughter Mallory and their son Garrett Jon, who was born in September…Frank Miller and Melissa Giovanni will be married in Banff, Canada, in July, 2009.  Frank is sales manager for C.H. Robinson Worldwide in Calgary…Thanks to everyone for writing this time with updates about you and your friends.  It sure made for an interesting, info-packed edition.  Best wishes for happy and healthy New Year.  Plan to come back to Carroll in 2008!  - Cherie

Hello class of ‘98 grads. Hope you had a wonderful summer. For many of you, it’s been a very busy one ... In July, Rita (Kingsbury) ‘99 and Tim Burke relocated to West Palm Beach, FL, where Tim was asked to head up corporate banking for National City Bank’s Southeast region. The Burkes and their sons, Timmy (3) and Jack (2), are excited to be in Florida. They would enjoy hearing from anyone traveling to or living in the area - Tburke13@msn.com. Speaking of traveling, Tim said they recently went to Buffalo with Mike and Jaime (Szymanski) Swallow, Nathan and Jenny (Maloney) ’00 Lambert, and Matthew and Lynda (Hogan) Carver to witness the marriage of ‘Big Shot’ John Eberz and his new bride, Melissa. Jaime said she and Mike live in Brecksville, OH, with their two children, Natalie (2 1/2) and Michael (3 mos.). They will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary this year with a trip to Miami where they plan to have a dinner with Ryan Stumphauzer. Mike continues to work at CBIZ as a retirement plan consultant alongside fellow grad Michael Ziccardi. Michael, his wife Elissa and Olivia (2) live in Brecksville. Nathan and Jenny Lambert live in University Heights with their two children, Abigail (2) and Matthew (8 mos.). Nathan is the chief technology officer for the library at Case Western Reserve University. ... Susie (Memo) ’02 and Alex Schmitt vacationed in Ireland this summer. Alex is a senior manager at Ernst & Young in Cleveland, and Susie is a kindergarten teacher and basketball coach in Streetsboro, OH. They live in Hudson, OH. ... Kristina Rus works for the business management consulting firm Accenture, LLP. Since 2001 she has been working in Wilmington, DE, and currently is leading her client through an SAP implementation. On weekends, Kristina lives in Rocky River, OH, and enjoys spending time with family and friends when she is home in Cleveland. Her work-related and personal travels have taken her to Boston, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Denver, and Chicago, just to name a few. ... Meredith Richardson lives in Denver, CO, and is a corporate compliance manager for DaVita Inc., a provider of renal dialysis. Mario (‘94) and Jill (Vistein) Valente were married in October 2004 at JCU’s Saint Francis Chapel. They both are teachers and have made their home in Rocky River, OH. They welcomed their first child, Vincent Rocco, in February 2007. ... Jennifer (Schwartz) Garcia worked at American Greetings until June 2002, when she married Dr. Lou Garcia and moved to Jacksonville, FL. She worked as a product development manager for a gift company and was able to travel to China on several occasions! On December 7, 2006, she gave birth to triplets - Mary, Gabrielle, and Mateo!! Congratulations to my good friends Kelly and Adam Mordock who welcomed their adorable son, Owen Ross, to their lives on a very snowy February 15, 2007. Adam works as an IT consultant in the Cleveland area, and Kelly is a recovery room nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. The Mordocks live in Beachwood. ... Also congrats to Michael Maassen and Dana Kubilis Maassen, who welcomed Jonathan Michael on March 24, 2007. Dana is a manager of financial reporting at First Advantage Corporation, where she has been for almost three years. Michael is a senior buyer at the CarMax. The Maassens live in Largo, FL, about an hour from Dana’s parents and brother and just 15 minutes from the beach. ... Laurie and Brian Pellow were married on August 20, 2005, in Bay Village, OH. Their son, Quinn Xavier, was born on December 23, 2006. Brian recently started a new job as a quality assurance analyst for Ernst & Young in Cleveland. Previously he worked as a QA analyst for the TALX Corporation for nine years. ... Scott and Kara (Keating) Copeland were married in Cleveland on September 16, 2006. Many JCU grads attended the fun wedding. Scott is a manager at the Moreland Partners consulting firm in Beachwood, OH, and Kara is the director of resource development at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland. Kara said her matron of honor, Jessica Pinter, and her husband, Todd, have a beautiful little girl named Camille, and they are expecting another baby in September. Jessica is an attorney at the Federal Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. ... Congrats to my good friend Ann Hricko who received a promotion to vice president in March. As a workgroup manager in National City’s Corporate Operations and Information Services Division in Cleveland, OH, she focuses on the bank’s acquisition conversions. Ann is looking forward to visiting her JCU roommate, Christine Castro, in Chicago, IL, in May. And we’re both looking forward to returning to our favorite long-weekend city of Nashville, TN, this summer! ... Jeff and Kristen (Schneidler) Schultz were married on February 4, 2006. They were happy to have many John Carroll alumni at their wedding, including Christy (Wilder) Babbitt, Karen Salerno, Alexia Kapeluck, Steve and Kate (Curry) Conway, George Schaefer, and Mike Schneidler ’00. Kristen and Jeff honeymooned in Hawaii and are looking forward to another big trip this spring: Paris and Rome. They live in Bay Village, OH. Kristen most recently worked as the sales promotions manager for The Cleveland Orchestra, but she left that position several months ago to launch her own non-profit organization -- a brain tumor support group. winter 2007 Congratulations to my dear friends Dave and Carolyn (Sprague) Kucharski who welcomed their son, Aiden David, to their lives on December 29, 2006. The little guy is adorable, and I am so happy to be his “aunt.” This fall Carolyn and Dave moved into a beautiful home in Broadview Hts., OH. Carolyn is an audit senior manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Dave is a personal financial consultant. ... Alan and Jill (Gosky) Panteck welcomed their second son, Evan Christopher, on November 13, 2006 to join Sean Alan (2). Alan earned his medical degree at the OSU College of Medicine and will complete his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, in June 2007. In August, he will pursue another year of training in hand surgery at SUNY Buffalo. The family now lives in Troy, MI. ... Jay and Sandra (Lobritz) Gaston have a son John who was born on October 18, 2006. The family lives in Atlanta, GA. ... Melissa and Dale Russell were married in Oakland, FL, on June 3, 2006. Dale teaches American literature at East Ridge High School in Clermont, FL, and also is an adjunct professor at Valencia Community College, where he teaches English to non-native speakers. ... Megan and Ryan Campbell have an 8-month-old baby boy. Ryan works as the controller for an automobile dealership group in Fort Wayne, IN. ... After eight years as a captain in the Army, Angie Rak spent last year near Milan, Italy, working as a management consultant. She recently received an offer to work for Abbott Labs, so she will be moving back to the United States this spring. ... Christine and Artie Taylor live in Columbus, OH, with their AJ (2). Artie is the assistant men’s basketball coach at Wittenberg University; his team was the NCAA national runner up in 2006. Artie said his good friend Delmar Walters also is a college basketball coach; Delmar is at the College of Mount Saint Joseph. ... In January I ran into Lisa Zone at The Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club’s presentation of the “Top 25 Under 35 Movers and Shakers” awards, for which Lisa was a finalist. Lisa is a vice president at Dix & Eaton, a public relations firm in Cleveland, OH. She also sits on the boards of the Cleveland Advertising Association (CAA) and Dress for Success Cleveland. She recently chaired the CAA’s Communications Career Day event, which many JCU students attended. ... And that’s our class news for now. Hello everyone. Hope you’re having a great fall and looking forward to the holidays and the New Year. As always, it’s great to hear from our fellow Blue Streaks. George Coppola moved back to the Cleveland area for his job as a senior pricing analyst with Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake in Elyria, OH. He and wife Jen built a home in Medina, where they live with their son Tommy. They’re expecting another child in November. ... Ben and Tiffany (Sutt) Schlueter were married in August 2004 in Indianapolis, IN. They moved to St. Petersburg, FL, in December 2005 where Tiffany is a news producer for Fox 13. Tiffany said they’re happy to be away from the Northern winters, but they’re definitely missing the leaves changing colors in the fall. ... Grant Mast and Brook (Wantz) Mast ’99 were married in July 1999. After living in Chicago for a brief three month period, they returned to Cleveland in 1999 where Grant worked in operations management with Moen, Inc. This summer, they moved to Raleigh, NC, where Grant works for Moen’s finishing manufacturing facility as a focus factory manager of the PVD operation. They have two energetic children, Paige (4) and Connor (20 mos.) who Grant describe as “way too fun!” ... Mike and Lisa (Knall) Buck moved to Northern Virginia in 2003 after living in Rhode Island for three years. On Father’s Day of this year, they welcomed little Addison Lynn to their family. ... Katherine Adams moved to Chicago in 2004 to explore a career in social work. She recently got a job with the attorney general of Illinois working with victims of violent crime. In July she got engaged to Tim Kelly, and they are to be married in Cleveland in October 2007. JCU friends can reach Katherine at kadams@atg.state.il.us. ... Hi everyone. Hope you had a great summer! Thanks to the handful of you who wrote to share information for the column this time. Congratulations to Dana and Glen Getz on the birth of their first child, Maia Grace, born in May. The family lives in Pittsburgh, PA. ... Ignatius Joseph Kury II was ordained a deacon in May at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. Josaphat in Parma, OH. When Joe finishes his degree in theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., he will return to Parma to serve the people of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat. He also is in the chaplaincy program at Akron General Medical Center. It’s an 11-week intensive course on ministry to those who are sick, dying and/or living with terminal illnesses. ... Jennifer and Damien Kopkas were married in July 2003. Damien is a teacher, baseball coach and girl’s golf coach at Solon High School in Solon, OH; his wife is a television news anchor/reporter for CBS affiliate WSEE in Erie, PA. They own a home in Ohio and rent an apartment in Pennsylvania. Damien graduated from BW with a Master of Arts in Education in 2002. ... In June, Jennifer (Serey) Weaver and Beckie (Williamson) Brown surprised Ellen (O’Leary) Collins for her 30th birthday with a day at the spa while their husbands watched their children. Jennifer said it was a nice treat for the hard-working moms. Jennifer earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University in 2002. She and her husband Alexander welcomed their second child, Jacob Alexander, in February. Their daughter Caralyn is two. The Weavers live in Powell, OH. Becky also is an optometrist and works for Salem Eyecare Center in Salem, OH. Becky, her husband Craig and their son Aaron moved into a new home in Salem last December. Ellen, her husband Denny and Kayleigh (2) live in a new home in Lake Erie Shores, which is in Painesville Township, OH. Ellen said she heard from Ian Tsai who is busy traveling for his job with Penske Logistics. Ian said he met up with John Ramos, who lives in Arizona and is doing well. ... Katie and Chip Aschenbrener were married in November 2004. They built a home in Avon, OH, in March 2005, and welcomed their daughter Ava in February 2006. Chip works as a senior territory manager for EBI Medical in Cleveland. ... Sounds like JJ Mitchell is having fun cycling in California. He recently took first place in the inaugural Conquer the Canyons stage race in which he competed in a time trial, circuit race and road race all in one weekend. In addition to cycling, JJ enjoys track-bike riding, which involves cyclists sprinting around a velodrome at more than 30 mph with fixed gears and no brakes. He says the racing gets his adrenaline pumping almost as much as another one of his hobbies, cow branding, which finds him in a ring face-to-face with 600 lb bulls! ... Happy 30th birthday Class of ’98! To celebrate the Big 3-0, my good friend Ann Hricko and I went on a seven-day southern Caribbean cruise in March. On the island of Curacao we swam with the dolphins and in St. Thomas we parasailed 400 feet above the ocean. It was an incredibly fun – and relaxing – way to kick off the new decade! Kara Newmeyer said she and her college friends went to Las Vegas to celebrate their 30th. The group included: Jeff and Lisa (Frankl) Kula, who recently had a baby boy, Casey; Melissa (Mekkelson) Hayden who lives in Beckley, WV, with her husband and recently took a new position as a pharmaceutical representative; Stacy Miros who lives in Seattle, WA, and works for Microsoft; Alison Strell who lives in Washington, DC, and works for Smith Barney; Lisa Zone who lives in Cleveland and works for the public relations firm Dix and Eaton; and Mary Sullivan who lives in Cleveland and works as an attorney. Kara lives in Pittsburgh, PA, and works as a social worker for the elderly. Kara also sent along the picture from Jay Donato’s wedding. Jay and Mary Ellen were married in October 2005. At press time Jeannine (Nadasdi) Denholm was getting ready to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards in Hollywood! For three years she has been working on the show Starting Over. Last year she received an Emmy for the series and is nominated again this year for Outstanding Special Class Series. Jeannine is the head of promotions for Starting Over and works closely with the story and production crew to write and produce all the in-show promo content. She also has worked on the television show Animal Planet. Jeannine met her husband, Dave, when they worked together at WKYC in Cleveland. They now live in Los Angeles where Dave is a radio talk show host for ESPN. ... Congratulations to Aaron and Cathy (Mayle) Smith who had a baby girl, Lucy Catherine, in December 2005. The Smiths were married in October 2002, and live in Memphis, TN. Cathy works from home for Fidelity National Field Services, which is based in Solon, OH. ... Caitlin (McKendry) Schneid and her husband Jim, who married in October 2003, had a baby boy, Colin James, in February 2006. They currently live in Charlotte, NC. ... Kristin Toth relocated to Austin, TX, in July 2004. She works for Dell as a senior compensation consultant on the Global Compensation Programs team. Her work enables her to travel around the world, literally! She recently returned from a three-week work trip to Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and India. ... JJ Mitchell lives in Agoura Hills, CA, which is near Los Angeles. In 2003 he received his MBA in finance from the University of New Mexico. As a biological product specialist for Sanofi Pasteur, JJ educates doctors about current pediatric disease trends and the vaccines to prevent them. Most of his free time is devoted to training for cycling and triathlons. He rides with the Amgen Cycling team and is working towards the traveling team. ... Greetings Class of ’98! Hope you all are doing well and having fun celebrating your 30th birthdays. The year 2005 was an exciting one for many of our classmates. Michael Lipinski, who received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002 and then worked as a prosecuting attorney with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel in Washington, D.C., returned to Cleveland last summer and began working as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. On July 16, 2005, he married Carrie Goglin; they now live in Mentor, OH. ... Last fall I attended two beautiful weddings for a couple of good JCU friends. Kelly and Adam Mordock were married in Streetsboro, OH, on October 8, 2005. Carolyn (Sprague) Kucharski and I read at the wedding, and Dave Kucharski was a groomsman. Other JCU guests included Doug Coster and Jen Scherschel. Adam and Kelly honeymooned in Hawaii. They live in Beachwood, OH. Adam works for a small information technology consulting firm in the Cleveland area, and Kelly is a registered nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. ... Three weeks after Adam and Kelly’s Ohio wedding, Jen Scherschel and Mark Polston were married in Cary, IL, just west of Chicago. Carolyn (Sprague) Kucharski and Claudia Mooney were part of the wedding party. Other JCU guests at the October 29 wedding were Dave Kucharski, Jennifer (Westenberg) Jazynka and Adam Mordock. Jen and Mark honeymooned in Ireland and now live in Crystal Lake, IL. Last May Jen received her master’s of Library and Information Science degree from Dominican University, and she now works as a librarian for a public library in Chicago’s Northwest suburbs. Mark is a manager for Chicago Indoor Racing. ... Congratulations to Karen and Doug Coster who welcomed baby Madison Noel on December 2, 2005. Doug says he and Karen love having Madison in their lives. The Costers live in Cincinnati, OH, where Doug runs the operations of his family business and Karen teaches fourth grade in the Oak Hills School District. ... In December 2005, Ryan Cavanaugh was promoted to associate at the law firm of Kelley & Ferraro in Cleveland, OH. Ryan began with Kelley & Ferraro in 2002 as a law clerk. Greetings. This October I had the privilege of representing our class at the inauguration of Rev. Robert L. Niehoff, SJ, John Carroll’s 24th president. I was honored and humbled to join representatives from other classes in the procession around the Quad and into the varsity gym on this historic occasion. It’s obvious that Rev. Niehoff is going to do great things for our alma mater. ... In other news, I was proud to become an “aunt” this summer when my roommate of four years Kristie (Kontak) Crane and her husband, Aaron, welcomed little Ava Elizabeth into their lives on September 4. The Cranes are doing well, living in Columbus, OH. ... Ian Meyers recently bought a home in Cleveland and is pursuing his master’s degree in Homeland Security/Terrorism Studies from the American Military University. Ian writes that Jen and Ken Gaume are expecting their first child and are now living in Medina, OH, after spending a few years in Philadelphia, PA. ... Nathan Lambert and Jenny (Maloney) Lambert ’00 had a baby girl in April; they named Matt Carver the godfather and Tara Wisniewski ’00 the godmother. Speaking of Matt, he and Lynda (Hogan) Carver had a baby girl in September, as did Mike Ziccardi and his wife. ... This October, Peter Andolino and Michelle Nigon ’00 were married in Philadelphia, PA. ... Sandra Lobritz Gaston and her husband, Jay, are living in Flowery Branch, GA. ... Erin Fagan recently relocated from Boston, MA, to Charleston, SC, where she is teaching third grade at Fort Dorchester Elementary School in Summerville, SC. Erin graduated from Lesley University with a dual master’s degree in elementary education and reading. ... Travis and Theresa (Henn) Day welcomed their first child, Dylan Thomas, on July 18. Theresa writes that they are living near Indianapolis, IN, where Travis is the primary research scientist for the pediatric surgery group at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and she is an assistant senior biologist within the Neuroscience Department at the pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly and Company. Theresa would love to hear from other JCU folks living in Indianapolis - theresa_travis_day@hotmail.com. ... John and Jane (Rich) Wieland welcomed baby Jacob Michael to their family on Mother’s Day 2004. This May, Jane earned her MBA from Ohio Dominican University and recently was promoted to operations manager at Grainger Industrial Supply. The Wielands live in Powell, OH. Jane writes that she and Natalie (Barrington) Hackney still get together for mini-reunions and shopping trips. Natalie and her husband Brad are expecting their first child this November. The Hackneys live in Cleveland, OH, where Natalie works as a school psychologist. ... And that wraps up our last class update for 2005. It was good to hear from Ryan Maginn who wrote to say he received his MBA, with concentrations in finance and strategy, last December from the Simon School at the University of Rochester. Ryan lives in Rochester, NY, where he bought a home and works as a senior financial analyst in the Regulatory Compliance Division of Frontier, the local communications company. ... Jay Donato lives in Pittsburgh, PA, where he works as an investment consultant at Select Financial Group, LLC. ... Elizabeth (Chambers) Daniels received her MBA from Case Western Reserve University in August 2003 and works as a business controller at E2 Precision Products in Cleveland. She and her husband, David, live in Bay Village, OH, and are expecting a child in late October. ... Sandy Lobritz lives in Flowery Branch, GA. ... On November 21, 2004 Ingemar and Christie (Easterling) Anderson ’97 were married. Christie is a school psychologist in the Hawthorne School District in Hawthoorne, CA. This summer she and her husband are moving to Bainbridge Island, WA, off the coast of Seattle. ... Ryan Stumphauzer received his law degree from Vanderbilt University and lives in Miami Beach, FL. ... Nicole (Damico) Powell and her husband, David, live in Dublin, OH. ... Lots of wedding and baby news: Eric and Christy (Wilder) Babbitt were married on November 6 at Holy Rosary Church in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood. Wedding guests included: Heather Scholle, Rachel (Schneider) Mullis, Sarah Bausch, George Schaefer, Kristen Schneidler, Dave and Carolyn (Sprague) Kucharski, Mike and Becky (Durica) Kelley, Ann Hricko, Karen Salerno, Amy (Slisz) Hradek, Kara Keating and Scott Copeland. The couple took a week’s honeymoon to Sardinia, Italy, and now live in a small mountain town outside Heidelberg, Germany. They both work for the University of Maryland-University College-Europe, where Christy is an accountant and going to school for her master’s of public administration. ... Dan and Janeece (Anderson) Ansevin bought their first home in Vermont. Dan is in his neurology residency at Dartmouth, and Janeece teaches French at Hartford High School. Janeece writes that Mike and Becky (Durica) Kelley welcomed baby Aidan Michael Kelley on July 21, which was also their third wedding anniversary. … Earlier this year Dan and Nyla Abu-Jawdeh Lambert welcomed daughter Rima to their family. They live in Hampstead, NH. … Bryan and Michele (Leighton) Krajicek are expecting their first baby in late August. They both are in residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. … Dave and Nicole (Damico) Powell were married on October 9. Bridesmaids included Lisa Cassidy-Vu, Beth Arakaki, Alexia Kapeluk, Janeece (Anderson) Ansevin, and Carrie (Tarantina) Labert. ... Mike and Jaime Swallow welcomed baby Natalie Lynn Swallow on Christmas Eve. ... Sandy Lobritz, a fourth grade teacher, is engaged to Jay Gaston and will be married on September 3 in Atlanta, GA. Carrie Greenplate and Melissa (Lanning) Patrizi will be in the wedding. ... Brian and Amy (Cachat) Koester are proud to announce the birth of Matthew Brian, born on February 28. ... Craig and Beckie (Williamson) Brown welcomed baby Craig “Aaron” Brown 11 days early on March 8. ... Darin Web Riter and Marcy Yanus ’99 were married April 23, 2004 and live near Grand Rapids, MI. They are expecting their first child in October. Marcy works as the associate executive director of the Visser Family YMCA. ... Brian Crego will marry Heather Lukaszewski this August in Brecksville, OH, and then honeymoon in Disney World. They got engaged at a Tim McGraw concert last July. ... Matt Lemieux married Stephanie Pemberton last July in South Bend, IN. They live in Euclid, OH, and are expecting their first child in October. Matt works in sales for Bristol-Myers Squibb. ... Marianna and Jason Macie also are expecting their first child in October. They live in Cleveland Hts. and Jason works at the Monarch School for Autism at Bellefaire, near JCU. He also is enrolled in the master’s program for physical education at Cleveland State. ... Lynn Sabol moved to Pensacola, FL, in 2002 to live near her boyfriend, Jim, an officer in the Air Force, and work as a marketing sales manager for a Gannett newspaper. When they married in February 2004, Jim took Lynn’s last name! A month after the wedding, Jim got orders for a three-year tour in Germany, and the Sabols now live in a small village outside of Spangdahlem Air Base. Lynn works as a substitute teacher at the elementary school on base and is a volunteer writer for the base newspaper. Lynn says they are enjoying their free time traveling throughout Europe. ... At press time, Barry MacEntee was running the Boston Marathon, for which he qualified at the Cleveland Marathon last year! Boston will have been his fourth marathon. So without further adieu ... last year Michael Coughlin, his wife Julie Nash and their two-and-a-half year old son, Nicholas, welcomed baby girl Alexandra to their family. The Coughlins live outside Columbus, OH, in Etna Township, where Mike works for the Ohio Department of Education as an Oracle ERP System Administrator. ... In May 2004, David and Amy (Kerner) Vazquez were married at the Heinz Chapel in Pittsburgh, PA. They honeymooned in Costa Rica in November and now live in Berkley, MI. Amy is in her second year of OB/GYN residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI. ... Shelly Oberst and Stuart Parker were married in Kent, England, on June 20, 2004, and then held a celebration for family and friends in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 31. The couple lives in Brussels, Belgium, where Shelly is a social worker for the US Military/NATO Operations. She works with pre-natal women and new parents, helping them with pregnancy, labor and delivery, developmental milestones, behavior and discipline issues, and the many other things that come with parenting youngsters. Her husband is a journalist and writes about international policy in the European Union. Since graduating from JCU, Shelly also has lived and worked in Germany and the Netherlands. ... Drew Pollick and Caroline Kondrat ’01 were married on August 21, 2004, at Gesu Church. Four days later they moved to Boston, MA, where Caroline started graduate school at Boston College. ... Dawn (Harvey) Klinefelter and her husband, Dan, welcomed their first child, Kaitlyn Patricia, to their family on September 13, 2004. Katie weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19” long. The family lives in Pittsburgh, PA. ... Mary Katherine Lynch received her MBA from The Ohio State University in 2002. Recently, she moved to New York City where she works in investment banking at Deutsche Bank on Wall St. ... After living in Milwaukee, MN, for a few years, Sara Buss moved to Minneapolis, MN, last summer where she works in media relations at the University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center. After years as a newspaper reporter, Sara said she is enjoying the career shift to media relations; she now connects reporters with experts in the health care field. ... From one writer to another, it’s exciting to share that Mary Jo (Marcellus) Wyse is a published author! Her essay, “Mary Anne Sadlier and the Catholic Woman’s Role: Politics and Paradox in Nineteenth Century Irish-American Society” was published in the book, Reconciling Catholicism and Feminism? (University of Notre Dame Press, 2003). Also, her short story, “Pickle Street,” was published in the book, Mota 4 (Triple Tree Press, August 2004). Both books are available on Amazon.com. Mary Jo and her husband, Tim, reside in Ann Arbor, MI, where Tim is in law school at the University of Michigan. ... Congratulations to Kristen Schneidler on her recent engagement. She and her fiancé, Jeff Schultz, actually went to high school together, though they never knew each other until a couple of years ago. After working in television as the PR Manager at WOIO/WUAB-TV in Cleveland for six years, Kristen decided to leave the world of TV to make use of the law degree she earned a couple years ago at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She is now working at the law firm of Roetzel & Andress. Kristen lives in Westlake, but she and Jeff plan to live in Bay Village after they’re married. .... In other news, any of you living in the Cleveland area probably recognize the familiar face and voice of Channel 3 WKYC’s Chris Tye. He is a reporter for the 6:00 p.m. news! After working for the last four years in TV news in smaller markets in Traverse City and Grand Rapids, MI, Chris returned to Northeast Ohio last fall. Christina is looking forward to graduating with her MBA in Marketing, International Business, and Marketing & Strategy from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in June 2005. ... Gretchen (Peer) Lattimore and Travis Lattimore ’96 were married three years ago in Saint Frances Chapel on JCU’s campus. Last summer they bought a home in Medina, OH, and in May 2004, they welcomed daughter Olivia Grace into their family. ... Congratulations to Becky (Williamson) Brown and her husband, Craig, who are expecting their first child in March. Becky and Craig were married on October 4, 2003 and bought a house in Salem, OH. Becky finished her residency at the Cleveland VA Medical Center in hospital-based optometry and is now working as an optometrist at Bloomberg’s Eye Clinic in Youngstown, OH. ... After graduating from JCU, Jennifer (Schwartz) Garcia worked at American Greetings in Cleveland for four years. In June 2002, she relocated to Jacksonville, FL, where her husband, Dr. Lou Garcia, began his surgical residency. In Jacksonville, Jennifer works as the product development and sourcing manager for Natural Life, a small gift manufacturer. ... Thank you to Kara Keating who wrote with updates on a few other classmates. This September 25th, Jessica Pinter married Todd Boyer. Kara was in the wedding, along with Jessica’s sister Danielle ’00, who was the matron of honor. Many JCU alumni were in attendance at the wedding, including: George Schaefer, Brian Palagyi, Aaron Jazynka and Jen Westenberg, Jay Seminaroti, Michael Graham, and Scott Copeland. Todd and Jessica live in Cleveland, where Jessica is an attorney at Dan Morell & Associates. Kara recently was in Chicago for a conference, so she met up with Adam Samko. Kara said Adam is doing great. He is living in Chicago and working at Google. Jim and Michelle ’99 Evans married in August 2000 and welcomed their daughter Kaylee to the family in March 2003. In May 2004, Kaylee’s little brother Dylan was born. Jim received his master’s degree in family ministries from Malone College in 2001. He is a store manager for Carter Lumber in Medina. Greetings to the Class of ’98. Hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer. Thank you to the handful who e-mailed me after our last class column was published. It’s great to receive updates on all that’s new and exciting in your lives. ... Congratulations to Dana (Kubilis) Maassen and Michael Maassen who were married May 22, 2004 at Woodland Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL. Dana said it was a small ceremony attended by family and close friends. The reception was held at Palm Aire Country Club also in Bradenton. Annie Slota, Dana’s JCU roommate for three years, attended the wedding with her family. Dana and Michael met on a blind date set up by Dana’s cousin. They honeymooned for two days in Key West and four days at Walt Disney World and currently live in Bradenton with their shih-tzu, Sierra. Dana said Annie is working on her master’s of social work degree at Cleveland State University and is living and working on the West side of Cleveland. ... Glen and Dana (Colecchia) Getz moved to Pittsburgh this year where they bought their first house. Dana completed her master's degree in English last year at Wright State University while the couple still lived in Cincinnati. She is now teaching high school English in Pittsburgh. Glen is doing his post-doctoral work as a neuropsychologist at Allegheny General Hospital and just received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Cincinnati. ... Congratulations to Jennifer (Serey) Weaver and her husband, Alex, who welcomed their first child, Caralyn Nicole (aka “Cara”), into the world on April 1, 2004. Jen said Cara’s first April fool’s joke to mommy and daddy was coming a week early! Jen received her doctor of optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in June 2002. The family lives in Powell, OH. ... Rachelle Finizio and Michael Psznick ’00 will be getting married this August. Rachelle works at Ernst and Young in downtown Cleveland, and Michael just graduated from the University of Dayton Law School and will be working for Brennan, Manna, and Diamond in Akron. ... Brian Peebles is living in Columbus, OH, where he will be working full-time on his doctorate in chemistry at The Ohio State University this summer. He received his master’s in chemistry from JCU this spring. ... Christie Easterling ’97 is living in Los Angeles, CA, where she is interviewing for school psychologist positions in the San Francisco area. Alexia writes that wedding bells will be ringing this summer for Dr. Lisa Cassidy and her fiancé, Dr. Davis Vu. Alexia, along with Nicole Damico, Beth Arakaki, and Carrie (Tarantina) Labert will be bridesmaids in the June 9 wedding in Cleveland. Alexia is working in Cleveland for the Berea Children's Home, where she does individual and family therapy. ... Also tying the knot is Nicole Damico who will marry Dave Powell in Youngstown on October 9. Alexia, Lisa, Beth and Carrie will be in Nicole’s wedding as well. ... Congratulations to Ellen (O'Leary) Collins and Denny Collins who welcomed their first child, Kayleigh Margaret into the world on Valentine's Day 2004! Ellen said they couldn't ask for a sweeter present, and the whole family is doing well. ... The stork also recently visited Elizabeth (Potter) Sloan and her husband, Kevin. Little Avery Elizabeth and her parents live in Westerville, OH. ... Congratulations to Anne (Kissane) Gus and Jason Gus on the December 10, 2003 birth of their son, Andrew Thomas. Anne and Jason were married on April 6, 2002, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA, and now live in Fairview Park, OH. ... Danielle (Sarver) White is living in Pittsburgh where she works as an accountant for the ketchup-maker, H.J. Heinz Company. After graduating from JCU in ’98, Danielle married her high school sweetheart, and last November 1. Danielle gave birth to their son, Jay Patrick who is doing well and keeping them busy. ... Greetings, Class of ’98. It’s hard to believe our first class reunion has already come and gone. Held last June on John Carroll’s campus, the official registered number of classmates in attendance was about 70. But from the looks of things, I’d estimate there were more than 100 of us there on Friday and Saturday nights. It was a great turnout and a fun time for all! ... A big thanks to those of you who have sent information about yourself to me or the university. Without you, I wouldn’t have anything to fill this column! Al Panteck wrote to share the good news that he and his wife, Jill (Gosky) Panteck welcomed their first son, Sean Alan, to their family on December 1, 2003. The Pantecks now live in Detroit, MI, where Al is an orthopedic surgery resident at Henry Ford Hospital; he graduated from The Ohio State College of Medicine in 2002. Jill, who had been working for a pension analysis firm, is now enjoying her time at home with baby Sean. ... Dana Kubilis lives in Bradenton, FL, where she bought a townhouse and her first puppy, a shih-tzu named Sierra. Dana is a senior accountant at Teltronics, Inc., a company in Sarasota that manufactures and develops telecommunications equipment. Best wishes to Dana and her fiancé Michael Maassen, who will be married in the sunshine state this May. ... Thank you, thank you, thank you to Mike Swallow for sending me a great update on what many of our classmates are doing. My good friend Ann Hricko and I ran into Mike and Jaime (Szymanski) Swallow at a New Year’s Eve party downtown (Harley Magden was there, too) and they said they had just returned from a beautiful wedding in New York. Matt and Lynda (Hogan) Carver were married in Buffalo on December 27. Mike, who was a groomsman, said the wedding took place on a beautiful 45-degree day, which is rare for December in Buffalo. Lynda and Matt will be settling in Boston, MA, where Matt is in the Air Force and Lynda is a pharmaceutical sales rep for Aventis. The wedding certainly was a John Carroll affair with many alums part of the wedding party and in attendance, Mike said. Sarah Cook, a member of the bridal party, lives in downtown Cleveland and works at Ernst & Young. Nate Lambert, also part of the wedding party, works for Case Western Reserve University. In August, Nate and Jen Maloney ’00 were married, and they now live in Coventry. Dana Desser, also in the wedding, is doing his residency in Hershey, PA, where he says the chocolate factory is a “must see.” Tim and Rita (Kingsbury ’99) Burke attended the wedding and shared the great news that they are expecting their first child in April. They live in Medina. Ken Gaume, Ian Meyers, and Alex Schmitt could be found near the buffet table discussing the Buffalo Bills’ miserable year and how next year will be different. Mike Ziccardi recently bought a new condo on West 25th across the street from the West Side Market in Cleveland and hopes to move in February. John Eberz, a dentist in Rochester, NY, is still a frequent visitor to the infamous Gable's bar in Buffalo and invites everyone to meet him there for a drink, Mike said. Other wedding attendees included Melissa Lenigan, Emily Buckwalter and Pete Andolino, who is practicing dentistry in Philadelphia, PA. Finally, Mike also reported that Mark Beier left PricewaterhouseCoopers to follow his dream to attend a top-notch culinary school in San Francisco, CA. Mark is engaged to Jen Skizas ’00 and will be married in Chicago, IL, this May. Mike said he and Jaime still live in Brooklyn, OH. Jaime has been working for a consulting firm called Travel Analytics since January 2003, and really enjoys her job. Mike and Mike Ziccardi work together at Gallery Asset Management in Independence, OH. ... As I wrap up another edition of our class column, I hope it finds you in good spirits and good health. Cheers to the Class of ’98! Many of our classmates have lots of good news to share with us ... Congratulations to Michael and Jennifer (Neis) Mendrysa who were married in Fairfax, VA, on May 3, 2003. Jennifer said it was a beautiful day, and they were able to take wedding photos near the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Capitol Building. Some of the attendants included: Ian Meyers, Vicki (Sasinouski) Zivkovich, Michael Babinec, Scott Copeland, Rebecca Boczek, and Chris Serdinak ’99. ... Nicole Damico is living in Dublin, OH. She recently received her master’s degree from Youngstown State University. ... Jennifer Janas is living in Lakewood, OH. After working in marketing for the financial services industry for four years, she recently became the marketing coordinator for The Austin Company, one of the largest architectural firms in the world. In her new position, she creates professional proposals, presentations and sales materials, among other things. This spring she and her boyfriend enjoyed a 10-day cruise to Panama, Belize, and Costa Rica. Jennifer said that many of her JCU friends are doing well ... Dana Weidaw recently started her own public relations firm in Arizona called Soapbox PR. The business is growing strong and has kept Dana extremely busy. Jennifer said that Katie Pusateri and her fiancé are moving back to Columbus, OH, to plan for their wedding. Katie has been working for MDA for several years and is now in a new position at Prevent Blindness Ohio. Katie (Ruyan) Heavilin is an auditor for Key Bank. She and her husband, Bill, recently bought a house in Solon. Ann Davis received a promotion at The Cleveland Clinic and is now coordinating some of the large scale special events for all of the Clinic’s locations in Northeast Ohio. Gretchen Miller has been working hard at her nursing career, and she just landed a new position where she will be working with patients at home after they've had major surgery. Jennifer said Gretchen loves what she does as a nurse. Mary Roddy just bought her first home in Bay Village, OH. ... Congratulations to Christina (Costanzo) Hamluk and her husband, Kevin, who welcomed son, Aleksander Josef, in February 2003. They are living in Fairfax, VA. Christina is planning to start her own bookkeeping business. ... And last, but certainly not least, congratulations to my very good friend Ann Hricko who earned her MBA from John Carroll in May 2003, after just 2 ½ years in the program. Ann has an exciting summer ahead of her - she will be moving into her gorgeous newly built home and she’s also taking an Alaskan cruise with her boyfriend’s family! Ann has been with National City for five years and currently is a project manager for infrastructure projects within the company’s Information Systems Division. ... As I wrap up this edition of our class column, it’s hard to believe our reunion is just two weeks away. I’ve talked with many of you who look forward to attending and others who are unable to be there because you’ll be at out-of-town weddings for our classmates or have other commitments. spring 2003 So what are you doing the weekend of June 12-15, 2003? If you said, “I’m going back to Carroll for our fifth year reunion,” then good for you! But if you said, “I don’t know? That’s too far away,” think again. June is right around the corner. And how often does your five year college reunion come around? Just once in a lifetime. So mark the date on your calendar, and plan to come back to Carroll this summer. Our class dinner on the Quad Saturday night promises to be one of the highlights. And throughout the entire weekend you’re sure to bump into some of the friends you’ve been reading about on the pages of this magazine for five years. … Speaking of our classmates, here’s what we’re up to -- Elizabeth (Potter) Sloan lives in Western Springs, IL, which is about 15 miles from downtown Chicago. On September 14, 2002, she married Kevin Sloan, a graduate of Xavier University, and the couple honeymooned in Maui. Beth is an account executive for Transamerica Retirement Services, where she works with about 60 clients to design their company retirement plans. She also educates her clients’ employees on their retirement plans, investments and the importance of utilizing their 401K plans. Beth travels to St. Louis, Minneapolis, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin. She says she really enjoys what she does. Kerry Lynch also lives in Chicago, and in fact, her place is right around the corner from Beth and Kevin. … Also living in the Windy City is Christina Hynes, an account supervisor for Porter Novelli. … Nathan Lambert lives in Cleveland Heights, OH and works as a technology manager at Case Western Reserve University. … Mark S. Crowe is a supervisor for the Department of Children and Family Services. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Strongsville, OH. … Steve Conway and Kate Curry-Conway live in New Albany, OH. Steve is a consultant for Accenture. … Dale Russell lives in Bowling Green, OH, where he is teaching English and speech at Pandora-Gilboa High School. Last summer Dale finished his master’s in Curriculum and Design from Bowling Green State University’s College of Education. … Christina (Costanzo) Hamluk was married in September 2000. She and her husband, Kevin, live in Hackettstown, NJ, where Christina is a sample analyst for Pharmacia Corporation. … Congratulations to Jennifer Westenberg and Aaron Jazynka who got engaged in January 2003. No wedding date has been set yet. In December, Jennifer received her master’s in Library and Information Sciences and is excited to be starting her new job as head children's librarian at the River Rouge Public Library in Detroit, MI. … Diana Mazzola is a clinical registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. On June 6, 2003, Diana and Mason Tootell will marry in Cleveland and then honeymoon in the Southern Caribbean. Mason is in medical school at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine. … As for me, I bought a home in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland last July. It’s fun being a homeowner, and I’m in a great neighborhood that’s less than 10 minutes from downtown and from my job in the marketing department at Third Federal Savings. At Third Federal, I’m the editor of our weekly company newsletter, I plan our company events and I’m involved in a variety of other projects. … A big thanks to those of you who recently submitted updates. It’s the annual Breakfast with Santa sponsored by John Carroll’s ALUMS (Alumni Living the University’s Mission to Serve) group. It’s a wonderful service event that’s guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit, and even more important, it benefits hundreds of Cleveland-area school children. They are planning a July wedding and will cruise the western Caribbean for their honeymoon. Damien graduated from Baldwin Wallace with his teaching certificate and master’s in education in May, 2002. He is teaching geometry and transitional algebra at Solon High School, where he also coaches junior varsity baseball.…Also at Solon High School is Mary Jo Marcellus, who is teaching high school English and coaching eighth grade volleyball. In May, 2003, Mary Jo will marry Lt. Timothy Wyse, a 1996 graduate of Duke University and the current combat systems officer aboard the USS Preble. They are planning a Cleveland area wedding. ... Jane Rich recently was promoted to the logistics area of Ross Products Division Abbott Laboratories. She relocated to Columbus, OH, and is busy planning her September, 2003, wedding to be held in Pittsburgh, PA. Natalie Barrington and Cari Kotcher will be in the bridal party. … Keri (Nonno) Fitzgerald and Rick Fitzgerald were married in Akron, Ohio on April 27, 2002. Carroll friends Gretchen Watts, Gretchen Miller, Brian Felber, Brian Arnold, and Chip Ranaletta were part of their special day. Keri and Rick live in Pewaukee, WI. … Dan Lambert and Nyla Abu-Jawdeh were married in Saint Francis Chapel on August 17, 2002. Janeece Anderson and Phil Hartmann were in the wedding party. Nyla, who graduated from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in June, 2002, is an optometry resident at a Boston VA Medical Center. Dan, who graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in May, 2002, is a compliance manager at John Hancock. They live in Boston, MA. …Congratulations to Lisa (Smith) Olsen and Mike Olsen (’96) who were blessed with TWINS last October 30! Lisa says Madison and Garrett are a true joy, and they are keeping the happy parents very busy. Lisa is enjoying motherhood and plans to stay home with their children for the next few years. Before becoming a mother, she taught eighth grade math at Roxboro Middle School in Cleveland Heights, OH, for three years. Mike is a regional leasing manager for Developers Diversified Realty in Beachwood, OH. They were married in July, 1999, and live in Fairview Park, OH…This year the stork also visited David '97 and Ann Marie (Parente) Frattare, who had a baby boy named Spencer Ryan on February 15. Ann Marie says she and David are doing great and adjusting well to life with a newborn…. Bill and Kristen (Brigee) Cervenik welcomed their baby daughter Emma on May 2. Bill writes that Tom Homchik and his wife Jaime had a baby girl named Kaelin on March 30. Everyone is doing very well…Looks like I’m about out of space for this class update. Back in February (when I’m writing this column) you probably received a “Save the Date” postcard from JCU’s Alumni Office asking you to mark the weekend of June 13-15, 2003 on your calendars for our class reunion. They also sent a reply card asking you to update your record with current address, phone, etc. If you didn’t send back the card, be sure log onto JCU’s Web site to submit your current contact information. It will ensure you stay in the loop with all the upcoming reunion plans. ... Wedding bells continue to ring loud and clear for many of our fellow classmates. Christopher Roman and Jody (Hebert) Roman were married in September 2000 and they now live in Canfield, OH. Chris is an auctioneer and a real estate agent for the George Roman Auctioneers and Realty Co., his family’s business in Boardman, OH. Jody is the human resources director for a long-term care corporation in Boardman called Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services, Inc. ... John Schmidt and Kristen Thimons ’97 were married in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 12, 2001 and they honeymooned in Saint Lucia. John is a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley in Chagrin Falls, OH. Kristen is an emergency medicine doctor at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. They are building a new home in Streetsboro, OH, and plan to move in March 2002. ... Brian Graf ’97 and Mary Beth (Sullivan) Graf exchanged wedding vows on December 1, 2001 in Cincinnati, OH, at Saint Peter in Chains Cathedral. The couple now lives in Mayfield Heights, OH. ... Grant Varnum and Renee Weaver ’99 got engaged under the frozen Niagara Falls in December 2000 and they are looking forward to their June 2002 wedding. Kenny Hatcher and Michael Watson will be in the wedding and Grant says he can’t wait to see himself and Kenny in tuxedos on the same day! Grant earned his MBA in 2000. He is now a supply chain analyst at Nestle, and he encourages everyone to complete their Christmas chocolate orders early this year! ... Severina Mitra got engaged to Tim Antos on August 15, 2001 and they are preparing for an October 2002 wedding. Fellow classmates Julie (Orlandi) Zukauckas ’97, Anna DiFranco, Catherine Capretta, Carmen Vincelli, and Eric Hartog ’99 will be part of the wedding party. Severina’s engagement came just as she completed her MBA at John Carroll last summer. ... Ellen O’Leary became engaged on Christmas Eve to Denny Collins, a police officer in Mayfield Village, OH, where Ellen currently lives. Beckie Williamson and Jen (Serey) Weaver will be in Ellen’s bridal party on September 7, 2002. ... Janeece Anderson and Dan Ansevin got engaged on New Year’s Eve. They will marry on June 14, 2003 in Grosse Pointe, MI. Janeece received her master’s in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2000 and has been a French teacher in Centerville, OH, for the last year and a half. Her fiancé will graduate from Wright State School of Medicine in 2003. Janeece writes that Michele (Leighton) Krajicek and Bryan Krajicek married on December 30, 2000 in Omaha, NE. They both will graduate from the Creighton School of Medicine in 2002. Janeece also said Becky (Durica) Kelley and Michael Kelley ’01 married on July 21, 2001. The newlyweds are living in the Cleveland area. ... Jaime Szymanski and Mike Swallow have been engaged since August, 2001 and they will exchange wedding vows in Cleveland on August 10, 2002. Jaime says it will be a JCU affair because eight Carroll grads will be in the wedding: Mike Ziccardi, Nathan Lambert, Matt Carver, Tim Burke, Kristina Rus, Meredith Richardson, Rita (Kingsbury) Burke ’99 and Joe Gambino ’00. After the wedding Jaime and Mike plan to honeymoon in Hawaii and then live in Brooklyn, OH. ... Speaking of Kristina Rus, she bought a condo in Rocky River a couple of years ago. But she says she’s rarely home. For the last three years her job as a consultant with Accenture, a leading management and technology services company, keeps her traveling throughout the United States. Currently staffed in Michigan, Kristina manages large-scale software implementations. ... Christina Fako received her master's degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences in 2000 and now works as a clinical supervisor at North East Ohio Health Services, a community mental health agency, in Beachwood, OH. She lives in Stow, OH, and is engaged to be married on October 5, 2002. Her fiancé, Danny, is working on his Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Akron. ... Jason Gus and Anne Kissane will marry on April 6, 2002 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA. ... Sounds like the stork is also visiting some of our classmates this year! Tom Homchik and his wife, Jaime, are expecting their first child in mid-April. Kristen (Brigee) Cervenik and Bill Cervenik are expecting their first child in early May 2002. Congratulations to the parents-to-be! ... Joe Suster graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law in May 2001. He is now working at the Chicago law firm of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw as an associate in the banking and finance department. ... Stacy Miros lives in Philadelphia, PA, where she works for Microsoft Corporation as a marketing/communications manager. Stacy says it’s a very challenging, yet exciting position, and no, “I have not met Bill Gates ... yet!” ... And that wraps up our ’98 update for now.
