fall 2008 Thanks to everyone who has sent us information on their whereabouts over the past few months. We’re always excited to see what people are doing, where they’ve moved and other proud accomplishments in their lives. Here is the latest news from your fellow class of 2000 graduates. Gina DiDonato-Kubec graduated from the University of Toledo’s College of Health Sciences with a doctorate in occupational therapy and is currently interviewing with several hospitals in the Dayton area. ... Congrats to Laura Catena who graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in June and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She is engaged to Greg Novotny, a 2001 Kent State graduate. The couple will reside in Pittsburgh where she will be employed as a small animal veterinarian and Greg will be employed as a dentist. ... Benjamin Danisek graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in May and has since moved to Fairfax, VA, to take the bar exam – good luck, Ben! ... Congratulations to Shanna (Stonebrook) and Nathan Botos who welcomed their second daughter, Genevieve Ellen, on January 15. She joins older sister Isabella (3). Shanna is a nurse practitioner working with the cardiology team at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Nathan is a hospital sales manager with ZOLL Medical Corporation. ... Mickey Batyske was recently married to Rana McClendon. The couple moved to New York City in June where Mickey intends to continue his career as a deejay and entrepreneur. ... George Dubic is a licensed nursing home administrator, working at Geneva Pointe Skilled Nursing And Rehab in Geneva, OH. As a licensed nursing home administrator, George is licensed to operate long term care facilities. ... Billy Meadeand Becky Kumor were married and live in Cleveland. ... Crowley Webb and Associates, a Buffalo marketing communications agency, promoted Tricia Barrett to vice president/management supervisor. spring 2008 This New Year brings us great news. One of the most exciting pieces of news for your Class of 2000 scribes is that Clare Taft and her husband, Jason Smith, welcomed their first child on January 3 at 7:44 p.m. Grace Juliana Smith weighed 8 lbs., 5 oz. and measured 20.5 inches. The family is doing very well and Clare and Jason are enjoying every minute with their baby girl. Congratulations to Michael Paris and Chrystie (Kuhr) Paris. The couple welcomed a son, Collin, to their family on October 14, 2007. Collin joins his sister Samantha (21 mos.) at home. There is more baby news to report for Robin (Morris) Pacheco and her husband, Adan, who welcomed daughter Olivia Rosalina on June 21, 2007. Jim and Nicole (Saah) Ross welcomed their son, Madden Joseph, on August 28, 2007. Jim, Nicole and baby Madden live in Atlanta. Andrew and Maryellen (Walsh) Moline welcomed Nicholas Louis on December 6, 2007. Nicholas weighed in at 7 lbs., 20 inches ... In other classmate news, Angela Susnjara is engaged to Phillip Hoover ’04G. Angela and Phill will be married August 30 of this year and as of February; they are living in San Francisco where Angela works as premier client manager for Bank of America. ... Lisa (Ianetta) Alejos ’99 married Giancarlo Alejos ’03 on June 30, 2007 at Saint Francis Chapel. The bridal party included Jaclyn Romano ’99, Katy Doman ’01, Jenni (Ianetta) Yaeger ’04, Eric Mingus ’01, Jeff Previte ’02, Mark Gilbertson ’02, Ray Bolger ’03, and Tom Phillips ’03. The couple lives in Willowick where Giancarlo works as a specialist in the People Development Group at Progressive Insurance, and Lisa is a Spanish teacher and Foreign Language Department chairperson at West Geauga Middle School in Chesterland. ... Liz Donnelly is engaged to Michael Burke, a 1999 graduate of Boston College; a July wedding is planned in Chicago. ... Another Chicago alum, Bob Guillen works as a project manager in the Translation Department for the Center on Outcomes, Research and Education, which is part of the Research Institute for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, Ill. The company creates multilingual versions of patient quality of life questionnaires, which are used in global clinical trials. Bob was also part of a celebration for the engagement of Fina Cannon and her fiancé Davie Riddle. ... Katie (Farrell) and Jeff Norris and their three and a half year old son, Jeffrey, live in Chicago, Ill. Jeff works as a software architect at ThoughtWorks and is a road racing cyclist in his spare time. Katie is a second year Unitarian Universalist seminary student at Meadville Lombard Theological School and completed her internship as a hospital chaplain last year. ... Shannon (Murphy) Krajewski received her Master of Education degree from Ohio University in 2002 and she lives in Thousand Oaks, CA, with her husband, Richard. ... Katherine Lavelle continues her love of speech and debate as director of debate and visiting assistant professor of speech communication at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She spent the summer as assistant director of the Junior State Summer School at Stanford. ... Karen Klaege married Justin Zimmerman on April 21. She graduated from her family medicine residency program in June and opened a practice in Port Clinton, OH. ... Brian Considine joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after graduation, where he served for two years, living in both Texas and Washington. Most recently, he graduated cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in May, took the Washington State Bar in July and then spent six weeks traveling through South America visiting Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. ... Congratulations are in order for many new parents from the class of 2000, all with babies born in August. Tony and Mary (Lembach) Morrone welcomed Marco Ignatius on August 9. Marco weighed in at 5 lbs. 10 oz. Clay and Mary (Howarth) Bibbee welcomed Caroline Anne one day earlier on August 8. Caroline was six lbs. 14 oz. And Steve and Joanna (Lecznar) Schafer welcomed their first born on August 6, Benjamin Lecznar Schafer. It’s been seven years since we graduated from JCU, and the Class of 2000 has accomplished a great deal in that short time. Our fellow classmates are successful here and abroad, and many are building families and careers. Here is the latest news from the Class of 2000. ... Congratulations to Mike Scripps and Christina Johns who were married April 21 in Allentown, PA. Several JCU alums were in attendance. The wedding party included Billy Hoffman ’99, Mike DiNovo ’99, and Ben Hahlen ’01. Wedding guests included Eric O’Dell ’99 and Gerry Scott ’99. The couple honeymooned in San Francisco and Kauai’i and lives in Arlington, VA. ... Congratulations are also in order for Michelle (Nigon) Andolino and her husband Peter ’98, who welcomed their first child, Gabrielle Marie Andolino, on May 24. Peter is a dentist and Michelle works in pharmaceutical sales for Eli Lilly and Co. They live in Philadelphia. ... Susan Marcellus Ross and her husband David are back in Ohio from Kansas. Susan finished her master’s of education at the University of Missouri-Columbia this past May, and on June 25th she gave birth to their first baby, Ella Elizabeth. ... Jaime (McKay) O’Connor ’03 and her husband, Ryan ’01, live in Cincinnati with their two children, William (3) and Erin, who arrived in March of this year. Jaime works for Northern Kentucky University in the school’s center for mathematics. ... This fall, Eric Meljac will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a doctoral student in English literature and criticism. ... Michael Stang was promoted in January to manager of the Northeast Region for Lexi-Comp Inc. ... Jon Powers is hot on the campaign trail planning a run for Congress in 2008. As the weather warms, we are excited to bring news of some classmates’ weddings. Kevin Garvey and Kim Oblak were married April 21 at John Carroll. Scott VanDenHaute, Tim Corrigan ’01, Chris Miklich, Mike Hofherr and Scott Beran served as groomsmen. ... Laura Pyzik and Courtney Cheney will marry on July 7 in Toledo. Jane (Howarth) Vogelsberger is a bridesmaid in the wedding. Laura and Courtney live in the Washington D.C. area. ... Congratulations to Tori (Rendano) Nook who was recently promoted to vice president, retail division of Kowit & Passov Real Estate Group in Beachwood, OH. Tori and her husband, Jon, also recently purchased a home in Gates Mills. ... We have some great news about another one of our classmates who is making headlines and doing his part to bring relief and peace of mind to children in need. Captain Jonathan Powers, who now lives in Washington, D.C., spent 14 months serving in Iraq throughout 2003 and 2004 with the Army’s 1st Armored Division. His experiences lead him to found the War Kids Relief Program under the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. The mission of War Kids Relief, which launched in November 2005, is to help the children of Iraq recover from the destructive effects of war and give them hope and resources for a better future. Jon and War Kids Relief were featured in the January 24, 2007, cover story of Newsweek. Bridget (Houlihan) and Mike Kennedy were married in October at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Liz Donnelly was a bridesmaid and Jessie McCullough read at the wedding Mass. Gina DiDonato-Kubec, Courteney Malon, Bridget Lynch, Moira Conway, Dave Youngers and Jack DiCello also attended the wedding. Bridget and Mike live in Chicago’s West Loop. ... Courteney Malon lives in Chicago and works for Avanade. ... We received a letter from classmate Jim Flock’s father, who brought us up to speed on what Jim was doing. After graduation, Jim worked in Chicago and Park City, UT. In the summer of 2005, he joined the Peace Corps. He was sent to Kenya in January 2006 and has been helping the Kenyans in the Village of Chebunyo to learn how to grow, harvest and sell their crops and farm products more effectively. Another important task Jim undertakes is educating the people in his village about AIDS and what to do to prevent infection. Kelly Cipra also accepted a new position from her current employer, Target, and is in the process of moving to Philadelphia. She recently purchased a home in the Chestnut Hill area of the city. ... Scott Chmielowicz is an entrepreneur in the recruiting field, opening his own office in downtown Cleveland. ... Dave Wojnowski and Lauren Roberts ’01 moved and purchased a home in Wauwatosa, WI, after Dave and Lauren were both transferred for General Electric. Michael and Laura live in University Heights and Michael teaches first grade in Chagrin Falls while Laura teaches sixth grade math and science in Kent. ... Congratulations to Christina Bongiovanni, who will marry Craig Horner in Buffalo on August 26, 2006. Christina works as an admissions counselor for Villa Maria College in Buffalo and her fiancé is a chiropractor in West Seneca, they will settle in West Seneca after the wedding. ... Emily Shurilla finished her Master of Social Work in May and works at Applewood Centers, Inc. in Cleveland. She does intensive in-home therapy with adolescents and their families. ... She purchased a home in Washington, DC, in September 2004, and is an associate in the litigation section at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss. ... Susan (Marcellus) Ross and her husband, David, moved to Manhattan, KS, where Susan teaches reading in the Manhattan Public School District. Susan is working towards her M.Ed. in Literacy and her husband is working towards his master’s degree at Kansas State University. ... Although we’re still exhausted from Reunion, we have plenty of news to share about the class of 2000. But first, we would like to thank Rosalie Massey for planning a great weekend. We would also like to thank Ann Marie Murphy for arranging for drink specials for the class of 2000 at many of our favorite Lee Road bars. And thanks to everyone on the Reunion Committee for encouraging our classmates to return to Carroll. Courtney Kaezyk, our Reunion Committee chair, wanted to remind everyone that as a result of Reunion planning, the class of 2000 now has its own Web site to post news, check out www.jcu2000.net. ... Jane Howarth was able to show off a new engagement ring and her fiancé at Reunion. Jane and Brett Vogelsberger were engaged June 15 in Chagrin Falls. ... Kelly Richards and Nick Mize were also newly engaged at Reunion. Nick recently bought a house in Fairview Park, OH, and Kelly is the new public relations manager for Developers Diversified in Beachwood, Ohio. ... Mary (Howarth) and Clay Bibbee attended Reunion, then relocated to Montclair, NJ, in late July. Clay accepted a position as the director of racquet sports at the Montclair Golf Club and Mary will student teach at Montclair Middle School. ... After attending Reunion, Mark and Trish Streck ’01 Boleky moved to Jacksonville, FL, in July. ... Scott Beran and Debbie Leonard tied the knot July 1. Clare is excited that her husband, Jason Smith, will receive his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in May and then study for the bar exam before he starts work as an associate at McDonald Hopkins Co., LPA in the fall. ... Among those planning to attend Reunion are Robin (Morris) Pacheco and her husband, Adan, and Jennifer (Capuano) Puffer and her husband, Brett. summer 2003 Summer is finally here and ‘tis the season for new beginnings. Clare received her J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law this year and is busy studying for the bar, which she will take in July. She will start her new position at Benesch Friedlander in September. Lisa started a new job in April as communications coordinator at the Cleveland Foodbank. She is enjoying the job and the organization tremendously. Clare was a bridesmaid in Mary (Lembach) Morrone and Tony Morrone’s wedding May 31. Joining Clare in the bridal party were Angela Susnjara and Maryellen Walsh. Jason Smith, Sarah Gannon, Christian Garofalo, Mary Howarth, Jane Howarth and Debbie Pagano also attended the Columbus wedding. ... Now on to the other members of the class of 2000 ... Lisa accepted a position as account executive with Wendling Communications in Cleveland working on policies and issues surrounding improving urban education in Ohio. Jen Homick and Frank Feola ’99 were married in late August 2001, with many 2000 grads in the wedding party including Melanie Shakarian, Andrea Sever, Hilary (Schwartz) Keberdle, Beth (Hutter) Lower, Maya Boumitri, Denise Glaros and Matt Jackson. Congratulations! Keeping on the subject of marriage, Lisa Horgan and Mike Stelmack ’99 are going to tie the knot on October 5 of this year. ... Clare heard from Nate Cyril that Kristin Shaneyfelt was married on March 2 in Pittsburgh, PA to a fellow Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine student. Congratulations Shaneyfelt! ... Mike Biscaro and Kelley Gaughan got engaged in early February and have set a tentative date of July 2003 for their wedding. Both are living in Lebanon, OH, just outside of Cincinnati.
