I am still working as a product manager for Newell Rubbermaid and I finished my MBA from Wake Forest University in December 2006. I became engaged to Matt Shute in October 2007 and we will be getting married at Saint Peter in Chains Cathedral in Cincinnati, OH, on August 16, 2008. Traci Sybelnik and Julie (Zone) Andolina will both be bridesmaids. Marla Marino, Nichole Giannios, and Erica Taylor will be doing readings.” Congratulations to Jillian and Matt! ... Melanie (Rhodes) Johnson and her husband, Mark, welcomed their first child, Halle Juliana, on May 31, 2008. Melanie works for Bryant & Stratton College in Eastlake as a director of admissions. ... | summer 2008 | Jenni (McGregor) Haag was promoted to head of Children’s Services at the Garfield Heights Library in June 2007; also, Jenni and her husband recently bought their first home in Parma, OH. ... Kelly (Scott) Cerifko and her husband, Steve, welcomed Emma Katherine Cerifko into the world on March 18. Emma weighed 9 lbs. 7 oz. and was 20 inches long. Kelly is taking the rest of the year off from teaching second grade and will return to work in the fall. Kelly says, “We are all home and loving our new life and family in Buffalo, NY!” ... Lauren (Hill) Lesagonicz and her family recently purchased a new home in Poway, CA. ... Last year, Molly Toussant had an article about teaching writing published by the National Writing Project. She recently found out that the article was submitted for and is one of four national finalists for a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). ... | spring 2008 | I hope that all are well. Rami Ahmed shares: “I was just accepted to an academic fellowship in Medical Simulation at Harvard Medical School. I will work as an attending physician in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital while training Harvard medical students throughout the year. I will simultaneously be working on my master’s in health professions education and various research projects. I am currently completing my chief resident year at Akron City Hospital and will graduate this June. I will start at Harvard in July ’08.” Rami also shares that, Joe Palumbo, started an emergency medicine residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. ... Erin Painter recently graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine with a Doctorate in Pharmacy; she has moved to the Windy City, working at a CVS in the Gold Coast and living in Wrigleyville. ... Tom Rennie is senior tax manager with BKR Cornwell Jackson in Plano, Texas. ... Christy Potts is living in Twinsburg. ... Previously, I passed the July 2004 Ohio bar exam and practiced law for two years in Cleveland. In November 2006, I moved with my boyfriend, Patrick Carney (brother of Dana ’02), to “fabulous” Las Vegas, where I worked for a brief but wonderful four months as a real live Las Vegas showgirl before returning to the practice of law! I have had the good fortune to keep in touch with lots of JCU friends (although, being on the other side of the country, I’ve missed a few JCU weddings). Many JCU visitors here in sin city, including Chad Kleibscheidel, Traci Sybelnik, Justin Kerr ’99, Jillian Valerius and expect many more! I also had a chance meeting with Ryan Parle in the poker room at Caesar’s Palace this year. I would tell you more but you know what they say about what happens in Vegas.” ... Darla (Kimak) Kiko ’02 and Bryan married August 24, 2007, on Folly Beach, S.C. ... Ross Donadio, Meghan McBride, and Henry Burnscelebrated Meghan’s 29th birthday party at Dos Caminos in NYC. Ross works for a record label and has a major role in an upcoming independent film. Meghan teaches second grade at Harlem Success Academy, a new charter school. Henry recently joined Deloitte & Touche LLP in the private client advisors group and is involved with tax compliance and consulting for high net worth individuals. The trio has also seen the great Kyle Stefano ’02 who is attending graduate school at Columbia. They really miss their good friend Kristine Gasbarre ’02 who has been in Italy all year but will be returning to the NYC area this summer. ... Will Parr also sent his own update: “I was recently married to Julie Burckle, a Miami University and Xavier grad at the Cincinnati Art Museum. JCU alumni in attendance were: Chris Davidson, Kevin Fink, Meredith and Mike Hudec, Henry Lee ’00, Matt Rose ’00, Joe Meinking, Julie Schwing, Max Scherer, and Luke Diorio ’02. Julie is a program manager with Anthem and I am a general manager with Eagle Realty Group. We live in Cincinnati. Since graduation, I have completed a master’s in professional education from Xavier and am about to complete my MBA from Regis University in Denver -- three Jesuit schools in a row. She is completing her third year of residency in pediatrics and will be chief resident at the University of Utah next year. Both are living in Salt Lake City, UT, and enjoying the great outdoors! ... Jimmy Martines has much good news to share, in his own words: “My wife Samantha and I had a baby boy, Caleb James, on February 16, 2007. We live in Las Vegas, my home town, and I am a city attorney for the city of Henderson, NV. I also started my own firm, The Law Office of James J. Martines, Ltd., practicing in the areas of personal injury and civil litigation. I am still writing fiction and poetry like mad and soliciting my 60,000 word manuscript for publication. Recently I submitted to the Foundation for Creative Expression, Beat Museum 2007 Poetry Contest and was named Poet of the Month for May. I will have three poems published in a poetry anthology from The Beat Museum Press that will be available mid 2008 and have been nominated for Poet of the Year by the Foundation for Creative Expression. The poem for which I was named Poet of the Month for May is presently published online - www.thebeatmuseum.org.” ... Michael Hill is a clinical sales representative for Nanosphere, a molecular diagnostic company specializing in genetic-based clinical testing; Michael currently represents the West Coast and lives in Newport Beach, CA. ... Jenny (Doubrava) Solomon relocated to the Chicago area, where her husband, Alan, now works for Baxter Healthcare as a principal engineer and Jenny works as a product consultant for Allstate Insurance. ... And finally, a personal note from me: I’m the JCU “big sister” of two JCU “little brothers,” Matt Mallin and Eric Schild ’02. As a big sister, June 2, 2007 was a proud day for me as I was invited to witness Eric receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders and pledge his life to God and God’s people. Anthony Mastro ’00, Dave LaRusse ’00 and Jeb Schmitt ’00 are in the wedding party. Aaron Brown and Jen (Croston) Brown, Kevin Kuhar ’00 and Chris Tomley ’96 will also attend the celebration. ... Joe Enright provided his own update and those of his “knucklehead” friends: In December 2006, Joe married Lauren (Clark) Enright of Chicago at St. Francis Xavier Church in LaGrange, IL. JCU Alums in attendance included Pat Fitzgibbons, John Frye, Brian Barton, Brendan Hotchkiss, Jim Comerford, Matt Covell, Nish Vartabedian, Liam Bresnahan, Catherine Cummings, Michelle Marquette, Susie Kovass, and Lauren Ferrari ’02. Weeks after Joe’s wedding, Brian Barton got down on one knee at the Chicago Ridge Red Lobster and proposed to long-time girlfriend Catherine Cummings. They are planning a wedding in May of 2008. In the next several months, Liam Bresnahan, Jim Comerford & Michelle Marquette, John Frye, and Matt Covell will all be getting married. ... Patrick Connors ’02 shares the good news of his friend, Katie Kitsko who married Christopher Topolewski on October 28, 2006. Her bridesmaids included Natasha Marin and Lindsay Hofmann. Patrick Connors served as a groomsman. Nick Gentilcore was the cantor and John Paul Fielder ’02 served as a reader. Dr. Erica Roesch ’02 also attended. Katie and Chris honeymooned for ten days in Dubai. They currently live in Philadelphia where Katie is an attorney for Segal McCambridge and Chris is investment counsel at West Capital Management. ... Amy (Atanacio) Santos sent, in her words, a long overdue update on her life. She married Edgar in August 2001 and they are the proud parents of Joshua (3) and Lysandra (7 mos.). The Santos family lives in Brook Park. Amy has been teaching in Shaker Heights since graduating from JCU, she earned her master’s in educational administration at CSU. ... Chris Kozlik lives in Santa Rosa, CA, and works as a supply chain manager for Medtronic. ... Scott Williams lives in New York, NY, and works as a senior consultant for Protiviti. ... David Burrows lives in San Diego, CA, and plays music full-time with the band Modern Day Moonshine; the band’s debut album was released in spring 2006 and a second album is expected in summer 2007. ... The legacy of Tim Anderberg, a classmate who died in 2004, continues to affect lives. In his memory, the Anderberg family established Tim’s Fund for Kids. “Tim’s Fund” works in connection with Hope Clinic International; a medical missionary that serves needy children throughout the world. Since its inception, Tim’s Fund has established a clinic in Nicaragua named “Tim’s Clinic for Women and Children,” which has provided critical medicine and treatment for countless families in this impoverished community. Fundraisers were held in the Chicago area in April, including an evening out at Quartino’s and a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. Theresa teaches first grade in the Kenston Public Schools and is studying for a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. Courteney Malon ’00, William George ’06, and Maria Percic were all in the wedding party. Maria lives in Chicago and teaches gifted students in Chicago Public Schools. ... Seth Unger and his wife, Bridget, have been celebrating and increasing their family a little bit each year; Seth and Bridget had three boys in three years: Seth Jr. (2003), Coleman Alexander (2004), and Trent Christian (2006). Seth works in the California State Capitol for Senator Chuck Poochigian, the assistant republican leader who is running for Attorney General this year against the “infamous Jerry Brown.” ... John Shiga announces his recent engagement to Megan Toolis ’03; John and Megan are planning a April 2007 wedding. John currently works as an audit specialist for Nationwide Insurance in Columbus. ... Michael Riebe graduated from the College of Dentistry at OSU last year and is currently practicing in Painesville; Michael will be married on June 17 to Dawn DeLooze. ... James Martines is living in Las Vegas with his wife, Samantha. James earned his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2004 and is working as a deputy city attorney in Henderson, NV. ... Ronald Frey also earned his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall in 2004. Ron is an associate with Ian N. Friedman & Associates in Cleveland and has served as trial counsel for the local bar association, which prosecutes alleged ethics violations. Outside of the office, Ron enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Sabrina Davis. ... Maren Aikey earned her J.D. from Capital University in 2004. ... Beth Nelson earned an M.S. in Anatomy from The Ohio State University in 2003; she now works as a legislative assistant in Washington, D.C. ... Kate Renyck is living in New York City and works for JPMorgan Chase since graduating from Robert Morris University this year. ... Dominick Clayton married Erica (Thomas) Clayton ’00, on July 16, 2005, in Cleveland. Dominick is a teacher for Mt. Brian Schultz married Melissa (Mangina) Schultz on April 12, 2003.
