Welcome
Welcome to the first issue of Faculty Notes for the 2009-10 academic year. We begin our second year of honoring faculty accomplishments in teaching, research, and service. The year is off to an exciting start, thanks in part to 17 new full-time faculty members joining John Carroll and 11 new academic initiatives getting started through seed funding – read about both on these pages. In addition, we celebrate outstanding teaching and research by sharing thoughts from 2009 Distinguished Faculty Award winner Penny Harris. You will also find a listing of faculty achievements that have taken place since we last published in the spring.
While you read about faculty activities in this issue, keep in mind the 2010 A Celebration of Scholarship! taking place next spring. Planning for this four-day annual event – which highlights the scholarly activity undertaken by the Carroll community – is well underway, and we encourage your involvement.
Faculty Notes is published twice each semester by the Office of the Academic Vice President. We are pleased to share this showcase of faculty engagement and initiative. Look for the next edition in December.
Sincerely,
John T. Day
Academic Vice President
