This I Believe

I believe in having a little brother. I looked up to my older brother during all my younger years. As young kids we are just reflections of our surroundings. But, when ten years have passed by and you have your own mind and reasoning the tables kind of turn on you. At least for me it did.

When I was ten years old my younger brother came into the world. Now, instead of me looking up to someone, I was the one being looked up too. I no longer just had my two parents watching me but a pair of young blues eyes watching every move I made as well. This is not something that is bad or annoying, it actually is one of the greatest parts of my life. That is why I believe in having a little brother.

Before I left for college my younger brother I and where inseparable. Every day I would come home from school, and there he would be sitting at the table finishing his homework so that we could go in the back yard and throw the football. And it wasn't just him looking forward to this but me as well. I would rush home from school just to walk in and hear him say “ I'll be done in one minute, go get the ball”.

Then there would be the times on Monday nights where he and I would just lay up in my room watching the fan spin and we would talk. We would talk about everything from video games to college football. We never had to do anything to create such great memories we just had to be together and they would come. He would talk to me about school and how hard it is to be a third grader, and I would just think what I would give to be a third grader again.

In the fall it was football season and every Friday night I would look on the grass next to the field and there he would be throwing the ball around with other younger guys, trying to be like his big brother. And I would just smile.

I never realized how lucky I am to be an older brother until I came to college. When the only way I can look at my brother every day, and see his smile, is through a picture on the wall. But, I cant look too long cause then I miss home, and the bond we share. It's not just our special brother handshakes, or getting up really early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons, that makes me miss him. The fact that he, even so far away, affects the way I act every day, is what makes it so special. Its not just a belief for me, but, a fact that there is nothing better than having a younger brother.
