Biology at JCU

Welcome to the Biology Department at John Carroll University.  The Biology Faculty and Staff are proud of the diverse and challenging courses offered in the Biology Department. The department offers over 40 lecture and laboratory courses in: 

1. cellular and molecular biology;
2. organismal biology; and
3. evolutionary biology, ecology, and diversity. 

Undergraduate students can pursue a B.S. in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Environmental Science.  For those interested in post-graduate education, the department offers Master’s of Science and Master’s of Arts degrees in Biology.

• Dr. Johansen receives grant from the National Science Foundation to study the freshwater algal flora of Hawaii.
• Darwin turns 200: Many thanks to all who participated.
• The Department announces two new majors: Molecular and Cellular Biology and Environmental Science
• Drs. Johansen and Martin receive grant from the National Science Foundation to study cyanobacteria of the Atacama Desert.
• Jason Cotter (graduate student) and Dr. Sheil awarded grant from the Geauga County Parks District to study painted turtles.
