Master of Business Administration
The MBA degree is designed for students who want to move into positions of leadership in organizations and want an in-depth knowledge of business and leadership skills that will help students achieve their goals.
The goal of our program is to develop leaders who will make a difference.
To accomplish this goal we focus on teaching socially responsible quantitative and behavioral tools necessary in today’s dynamic business environment.
Our program is flexible for students who work full-time and may want to take one class in some semesters, two classes in some semesters or may need to take a semester off from classes based on work or family demands. At the same time, our program can be completed on a full-time basis for those students wishing to do so.
Program of Study
Our MBA program offers two options:
The General MBA Option - This is the traditional MBA track with a core that focuses on a series of managerially driven courses in each functional area of business.
The Integrated Business Decision Option - This track is designed in a cross-functional manner to provide in depth knowledge of business and decision making skills to facilitate participants’ movement into positions of organizational leadership. The core of this track is on the cross-functional nature of business decisions and presents different functional areas of business integrated around different business decisions. Students interested in the Integrated Business Decision Option must request this track separately and must meet its admission standards.
Leadership Courses In Both Options
Our leadership courses provide a comprehensive assessment of the students' management and leadership skills, followed by individual feedback, classroom discussion, and exercises. The students will become aware of a wide variety of skills necessary for success as effective leaders and managers. The students will create strategic career development plans. These plans will identify growth opportunities within the academic coursework, on the job, and in the community that will shape the students into the leaders of tomorrow. Throughout the M.B.A. program, the students will have the opportunity to meet individually with a career advisor to discuss progress in meeting their career and skill objectives.
Sequence of Courses
Both options in the M.B.A. program consist of four blocks of courses.
- Block I courses are the foundation preparation courses. Block I courses may be waived for those students with comparable undergraduate course work. Standards for waiving Block I courses depend on which track the student has chosen. In all cases the student is responsible for proficiency in all work described in these courses.
- Block II courses (18 credit hours) are the core of the program. The courses in this block will be different for the two different tracks.
- Block III consists of three elective courses (9 credit hours). At lease three credit hours of electives must be from an approved international business course. (The approved international business courses are described below in the Sequence of Courses.)
- Block IV consists of the capstone courses in the degree program (6 credit hours). The courses in this block will be different for the two tracks.
In addition to different admission standards, the two tracks within the MBA Program differ in Block II and Block IV courses. Blocks I and III are identical for the two tracks, as is the total number of credit hours required.
The minimum number of credit hours for the degree is normally 33. Students with an undergraduate degree in business may qualify for a reduction of as many as three hours of this requirement. Consult with the Director of Graduate Business Programs for more information.
