DESIGNATED COURSES FOR ARRUPE SCHOLARS
Designated courses challenge students to engage in issues of social justice, advocacy, and service learning during their four years in the program, taking at least THREE designated courses. These courses may also meet requirements for the Core Curriculum, an academic major, minor, or concentration, or for the Honors Program.

INTEGRATING COURSES:
Arrupe Scholars participate in the following integrating activities to further their experiences in and out of the classroom:
AR150 (A&B) -- Arrupe Scholars for Social Action Orientation
(1 credit each) Pre-requisite: admission to Arrupe Scholars Program and first year status; orientation to principles of Arrupe Scholars and John Carroll University; includes service experience, reflection processes and strategies, and development of e-portfolio.
EN 111 & 112 -- English Composition & Rhetoric for the Arrupe Scholar
(3 credits each) - Challenges students to grow in their writing and analytical reading skills in the context of social justice issues including hunger and human rights.
AR250 -- Arrupe Scholars for Social Action Speaking Practicum
(1 credit) Pre-requisite: admission to Arrupe Scholars Program and second year status; development of understanding of integration between curricular and co-curricular experience; students participate in Student Speakers' Bureau.
AR350 -- Arrupe Scholars for Social Action Junior Experience
(1 credit) Pre-requisite: admission to Arrupe Scholars Program and third year status; portfolio development; participation in Celebration of Scholarship; service experience.
AR450 -- Arrupe Scholars for Social Action Senior Capstone
(1 credit) Pre-requisite: Admission to Arrupe Scholars Program and senior status; capstone course that synthesizes students' experiences as Arrupe Scholars for Social Action.
