DANFORD AWARD
Each year hundreds of JCU students work with the John Carroll Campus Ministry team on a volunteer basis.
Many students participate in service and justice activities: tutoring inner city children, building homes, sharing food and fellowship with those who are homeless, traveling throughout Cleveland, the United States and beyond to learn from and with other people, and also working to promote justice and peace and a culture of life.
Others serve the university community in providing music, song, planning, leadership for liturgies, prayer and reflection groups, and retreats. Some students work in leadership capacities in several different areas and for a period of years.
The Danford Award, consisting of an engraved silver bowl or plate and a cash award, is intended to honor a student outstanding in these areas. The recipient is selected by the Campus Ministry Team from among the students working with them.
The award is named for Mr. Peter Danford, a local business man located at nearby Fairmount Circle, through whose generosity this award was initiated and continues to be made available.
