WAKE UP WORLD! - AFRICA WEEK

Wake up World! - Africa WeekTuesday, March 25th: Posters will be up informing about the genocide in Darfur, the genocide in Somalia, Invisible Children/war in Uganda and AIDS crisis all over Africa. Table will be up in atrium with flyers and handouts during lunch and dinner informing about the events of the week.

Wednesday, March 26th: Refugee hut display in Atrium, showing how a refugee would be living due to the genocide in Darfur. Sample of the food the refugee's recieve in the cafeteria. "Invisible Children"

 

Invest in Peace! For two dollars, grab a JCU-student designed Invisible Children shirt, or just swing by the LSC Conference Room on Wednesday, March 26 at 8:30 to be moved by the documentary "Invisible Children: The Rough Cut" and to speak with members of the IC Road Crew about current peace negotiations in Uganda. Help put an end to a war and to child soldiers by being at the screening March 26. We will not shut our eyes!

Thursday, March 27th: Display continued in Atrium, table will be up in atrium with flyers, handouts and buttons on the different tragedies in Africa.

Friday, March 28th: Table will be up in atrium with flyers and handouts during lunch and dinner informing about the events of the week. Shirt order forms available, advertising for Saturday's event.

"Save Darfur"Saturday, March 29th: Rally for Darfur, features local bands "The Thrifters" and "2nd Half", along with JCU favorites Sam Brenner and Tom Haren and Hip Hop Club. Along with great music, there will be free food, all for just $5 all of it going to the Save Darfur Organization.

Means for activisim will be provided with a letter writing campaign by Right to Life, petitions, and an event by Student United for Care and Healing (SUCH) to help those with HIV/AIDS in Africa.

A limited number of Bring "Peace Out" to Africa shirts will be available for $10 with order forms to have one made specially for you! All proceeds go to help the victims of the genocide in Darfur where it is described in an article published March 12 in The Independent "The conflict in Darfur has entered a violent and deadly new phase. Another "scorched earth" policy is being unleashed, reminiscent of the worst waves of government-backed violence that brought the Sudanese region to world attention five years ago and led the US to declare that what was happening there constituted genocide" (Darfur's Return to Hell).

Sunday, March 30th: 10pm mass will include specific petition hoping for relief and an end to the genocide in Darfur and Somalia. Each attendee will receive a candle and be asked to pray for peace in Africa.
