COUNSELING CENTER GOALS


The University Counseling Center seeks to provide:

  • Individual counseling that fosters the growth of our students in their personal lives, educational pursuits, and interpersonal relationships

  • Group counseling to provide students with opportunities to grow and develop new coping skills, try new behaviors in a safe environment, be affirmed for taking risks to foster growth, and receive encouragement from peer
  • Testing and assessment to foster client self-understanding and decision-making through informal assessment procedures, the use of psychological tests and measures, and referral to outside services when needed.

  • Crisis intervention to assist individuals and university personnel in responding to  psychiatric or psychological emergencies.

  • Outreach to provide educational programs based on the developmental needs of students that are designed to heighten awareness, promote healthy choices and decision making.

  • Consultation to the entire university community with regards to the safety and welfare of our students.

  • Supervision and training in conjunction with the John Carroll Community Counseling graduate program and doctoral programs from the surrounding area by offering internship and practicum opportunities for professionals-in-training.
  • A climate that respects and celebrates diversity including race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, age and disability.
