Who are we?
JCU EMS is a volunteer student-staffed Emergency Medical Services provider comprised of Ohio State First Responders (FRs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics. When a medical emergency arises on campus and student calls x4600 for assistance, JCU EMS responders are the first to arrive on scene to provide initial treatment and stabilization. In conjunction with John Carroll University Campus Safety Services, University Heights Fire Department and the medical direction of the Cleveland Clinic Health System – South Pointe Hospital, JCU EMS strengthens the continuum of emergency care on the John Carroll University Campus.
What do we do?
JCU EMS responds to student, staff, faculty, and visitor emergencies on the college campus, provides First Aid and EMS stand-by at special events (i.e. concerts, graduation, sporting events, etc) and through our adjunct EMSA provide CPR and AED education for both the campus and local community. We are on duty from 3pm until 9am seven days a week during the academic year with main offices in LSC Suite 201 on the second floor of the D J Lombardo student center. Shifts run from 3pm-7pm, 7pm-11pm and 11pm-9am. Responders must be in full uniform, alert and on campus in order to respond to radio-announced medical emergencies though may study, complete homework or relax. Through the selfless dedication of our emergency medical volunteers, EMS assistance is available free of charge on campus.
