PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS

JCU EMS is an entirely student-run organization that affords its members opportunities unavailable through any other means. We practice real and concrete emergency medicine; JCU EMS is the first EMS provider on scene, and, in many cases, the only EMS provider on scene. This provides to our members an incredible opportunity for hands-on experience whether they are interested in pursuing a health-related career or not. Some of the other opportunities available to members of JCU EMS include ambulance ride-alongs with University Heights Fire Department, EMS helicopter service with Metro Life Flight and staffing at South Pointe Hospital Emergency Room in addition to staffing special and athletic events on campus which include basketball games, football games, concerts, Chapel services, graduation, and a host of other interesting events. JCU EMS also provides unparalleled opportunities for leadership, training and professional interaction with John Carroll administrators, JCU and University Heights Police officers and administration, University Heights EMS and Fire Department. Alumni of our organization have shown, time and time again, that this type of experience is life-changing, whether they have pursued medical careers or not.

To apply please click on the link below and print out an application form. Applications are accepted each Fall semester if First Responder training is required and runs all year if you already have certification at the First Responder level or would like to go straight to EMT.  With the exception of book costs, the First Responder course is provided at John Carroll free of charge for those accepted into the department who agree to serve as a JCU EMS responder for a minimum of two semesters. After completing the application and submitting it to the department there will be an interview process made up of a panel of current JCU EMS responders as well as the Department Manager.

Formal recruitment will begin again in early Fall 2006 for the First Responder (FR) class beginning in late September.  We will be actively advertising from the end of August through mid-September.  However, EMT-Basic (EMT-B) classes are offered during the summer too for earlier acceptance into the organization.

Please e-mail us at jcuems@jcu.edu for more information, clarification and with any questions you may have about our organization.

We look forward to meeting with you!
