Where is the Student Health Center located?
The Student Health Center is located in the lower level
of Murphy Hall. The entrance in on the side of the
building, on the service drive, off of Washington Boulevard.
What are the hours the Student Health Center is open?
The health center is open during the academic year on the
following schedule:
- Clinic Hours:
- Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Physician's Hours:
- Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Who is eligible to receive services from the health
center?
Any JCU undergraduate or graduate student, whether a campus
resident or commuter, who attends classes full-time, part-time,
days, evenings, or weekends is eligible for medical assistance.
How are services obtained?
The health center is staffed by registered nurses during
the hours of operation. Walk-in
service is available during the clinic hours on a first-come,
first-served basis. If the clinic is closed, you are
encouraged to contact your R.A.
What type of services are available?
Experienced registered nurses are available for illness and
injury clinic care. Physicians
are on-site from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A Med-Center and
an Urgent Care Facility are also located nearby.
Blood work, allergy injections, and health-wellness literature
(including information on HIV testing sites) is also available
in the health center.
What are the charges for the health center?
Most health center care is offered without charge. There
is a charge for doctor visits, lab work, allergy injections,
physicals, and equipment loaned but not returned. Charges
may be paid in cash or billed by the physician's office.
Does the health center offer any transportation services
to facilities located off campus?
The Student Health Center has a medical van available to
transport students to medical appointments within a five
mile radius of our University. The hours of transport
are Monday through Friday 9 - 5 pm. To schedule transportation
please call 216-397-4349.
How are emergencies handled?
A rescue squad is available for victims of major accidents
or life threatening emergencies (dial 911). The ambulance
will usually transport you to the emergency room of the nearest
hospital. There will be a fee charged for this transport. You
are reminded that an emergency room is NOT to be used as a
doctor's office. If you are unsure about what to do,
contact the health center for advice and counsel.
What about Student Insurance?
The university does not offer student health insurance, although
information about purchasing coverage is available.
You are required to submit a copy of your health insurance
coverage, including insurance company name, address, group
and contract numbers, to the Student Health Center for our
files.
Is a visit to the health center kept Confidential?
Records of all visits to the health center are STRICTLY
CONFIDENTIAL. Information
about the nature of illnesses is NOT given to anyone
(including faculty, administration and family) without the
permission of the student. In the event of a serious
illness or accident, the health center will notify your parents
of the situation. Your prior
consent is necessary if you are 18 or older.
Does the health center provide class excuses?
Individual faculty members determine attendance policies. When
you must be absent from class for medical reasons, it is your
responsibility to inform your faculty members. If necessary,
your professors may call for verbal confirmation of a student's
illness, with written permission from the student.
This policy is in accordance with the HIPAA guidelines, which
protects the privacy rights of each student.
