GENERAL TABLE TENNIS RULES
Tournament Format: Participants will be placed in pools and will be guranteed 3-5 matches. You will play a round robin tournament. The table will be set up on Sundays. You will sign up for instant scheduling when you turn in your roster card. Information and guidelines will be available on the IM Bulletin Board.
Scoring: Best of three matches. The winner must reach 21. If they are tied at 20, the first player to go up by 2 wins the match.
Serving: After 5 points have been scored, the receiving player becomes the server. This continues for the rest of the game. This continues until the game is won or the game is tied at 20-20. At 20-20, the sequence of serving and receiving will alternate after each point until the game is complete.
The ways a player can lose a point:

The serving player fails to make a good serve. (Point Receiver)

The receiving player fails to make a good return. (Point Server)

One of the players causes the ball not to land on the table.

One of the players touches the table with the free hand while ball is in play.

One of the players touches the net with any body part while ball is in play.

One of the players moves the playing surface while ball is in play.

One of the players hits the ball twice successively.

One of the players allows the ball to bounce twice successively.

Hitting the ball with a part of the paddle with unacceptable material.
Eligibility: The tournament is open to all students, faculty, and staff .
Divisions: Open "A " ( above average skill) and Open "B" (recreational).
Equipment: Table, ping pong balls, and paddles can be checked out from the recreation desk.
Sportsmanship: It will be expected that all participants respect the game, the court, and their opponents.
