OUTSTANDING STUDENT LEADER AWARD

John Carroll University is filled with many students who have devoted themselves to serving the university through involvement and embodying the characteristics and qualities of a leader. The Outstanding Student Leader Award is designed to recognize graduating seniors who, through their dedicated leadership and involvement, have made significant contributions to changing the campus culture in a positive way during their time here at JCU. These leaders have consistently and unselfishly given of themselves in efforts to enhance the spirit and community of John Carroll and improve our university as an institution altogether.

Selection Criteria

A range of 5-10 graduating seniors (the exact number to be determined by the selection committee) will be named as recipients of this award. To be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The nominees will be evaluated and the recipients selected based on the following criteria which stem from our Jesuit and Catholic mission:

  • Demonstrated service to the university and/or local community
  • Commitment to student leadership and student advocacy
  • Commitment to positively changing the campus environment
  • Promotes a positive image of the university and the student body

Process

Any member of the JCU community (student/FSA) may nominate any graduating member of the senior class.
** Seniors may NOT nominate themselves
** The Beaudry Award winner will not be eligible for the Outstanding Student Leader Award

The following steps must occur to formally nominate a student for this award:

  • Nominator must submit a nomination form along with a 1-2 page letter/statement addressing how the nominee exemplifies the characteristics enumerated in the selection criteria and why he/she is deserving of the award.
  • Nominations are due to the Dean of Students Office, room 207 in the DJ Lombardo Student Center by 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 19th.
  • The selection committee will contact eligible students to inform them of their nomination and ask them to submit two supporting documents:
    • A resume outlining all of their involvements on campus and any contributions they have made to changing the culture of John Carroll during their time here.
    • A one page (max) reflection on their contributions to the JCU campus and why they feel they are deserving of the award.
