OUTSTANDING STUDENT LEADER AWARD RECIPIENTS - 2008

Image 2008 Outstanding Student Leaders with Dr. Sherri Crahen and Andy CostiganJohn Carroll University is filled with many students who have devoted themselves to serving the university through involvement and embodying the characteristics and qualities of a leader. The Outstanding Student Leader Award is designed to recognize graduating seniors who, through their dedicated leadership and involvement, have made significant contributions to changing the campus culture in a positive way during their time here at JCU. These leaders have consistently and unselfishly given of themselves in efforts to enhance the spirit and community of John Carroll and improve our university as an institution altogether.

Congratulations to the eight seniors recognized at the Senior Celebration on May 15 for receiving the inaugural Outstanding Student Leader Awards!

Throughout her four years here, Marisa has been a quiet leader, yet someone who has embodied what it means to live out our university's mission in everyday life. She has held leadership positions in various capacities across campus. Marisa has been highly involved in Psi Chi (the psychology honor society) as its treasurer, LSO representative, and president, and has been a tutor for other psychology students. She participated in last May's immersion experience to Jamaica, has been a resident assistant and senior resident assistant, and has clearly dedicated herself to being a servant leader in many different realms of campus life.

As one of the most involved and under-recognized students in the class over the past four years, Libby has been active in the Student Union Programming Board, Residence Hall Association, Circle K, Biology Club, and as a fall orientation advisor. She has been active in Campus Ministry with her involvement in the First Year Retreat, Manresa Retreat, and Christian Life Communities. She has participated in four immersion experiences and served on the Student Union Executive Board as the Vice President for Student Organizations in 2007.

Active in a variety of activities during her four years at JCU, she has led Project HOPE, Through the Eyes of a Child, and Circle K, and been an active member of Psi Chi and Alpha Sigma Nu. When she involves herself in an activity or program, she does so enthusiastically in such a way that it is contagious and thus motivates others to join. Alison has been active in a Christian Life Community, the Manresa Retreat, attended the School of the Americas protest, was a liturgical minister, and participated on the eight-day silent retreat.
