CHECK IN / CHECK OUT

Check-in is from 8:00am - 9:30am in the Schott Atrium of the D.J. Lombardo Student Center on the first day of New Student Orientation.  Check-out occurs in the Muldoon Atrium of the Dolan Science Center after the student has registered for classes, received his or her Carroll Card, and met with representatives of Financial Aid for an individual appointment (usually by 2:30pm on the second day of the program).

PROFICIENCY EXAMS

During orientation, students will take two proficiency exams, in foreign language and writing, so that their academic advisor knows what classes will help students to be the most successful here at JCU. These tests are not meant to be stressful. Just relax and do your best!

SMALL GROUPS

We will break into small groups during the day and you will be able to
discuss anything that is on your mind concerning college.  Not only will you be meeting other new students, but you'll be getting acquainted
with the university as well.

ACADEMIC ADVISING

Image of Student & Faculty Advisor Scheduling ClassesAcademic advising is an integral part of your education at JCU.  We focus on creating an academic advising relationship that helps students to plan a strategy to complete their coursework in a timely manner while ensuring that they take advantage of all that JCU has to offer.  Students will be assigned a summer orientation academic advisor according to their area of interest.  This person will be a resource in scheduling classes and adjusting to academic life here at Carroll.  Please contact the Office of Academic Advising to answer any of your questions at (216) 397-4219.

COLLEGE 101

Image of Orientation Staffers acting during College 101College 101 is a set of skits about college life for both students and
parent(s) written and performed by the orientation staff.  The skits
present a real life look at situations students may encounter through-
out their college career.  At the end of this program the orientation
staff will answer any questions that members of the audience may
have.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The social activities are a great way for you to continue meeting other new students.  We offer an array of activities including basketball, volleyball, dancing, or just hanging out.  Take advantage of the FREE food and great times!
