ROOM SELECTION PROCESS: SITUATIONS CONSIDERED
You wish to live with an international student:
This is a fantastic opportunity to live with someone who will be studying abroad right here at John Carroll! Students will be coming to JCU from several countries and we are eager to offer them a positive experience. Whether you are contemplating studying abroad yourself, have studied abroad, or just want to be a welcoming force in someone else’s life, please consider this possibility. You should complete your on-line application indicating you wish to live with an international student. Any student requesting an opportunity to live with an International student is required to meet with Mrs. Perri, Housing Coordinator for Residence Life to receive approval to select on campus housing with an International student. Once approved, during your selection time you can choose an empty room in any hall that is available with the exception of the corner rooms in Campion and Hamlin Halls.
You wish to live with an incoming first year student, a prospective transfer student, or a former John Carroll University student not registered this semester at JCU:
You should submit your Application with your intended roommate’s name in the space provided. Any new student will be considered to have zero semesters on campus and will be averaged into your semesters on campus. (Example: You wish to live with an incoming transfer student. You are a rising junior with 4 semesters on campus. Your average number of semesters on campus is 2.)
The prospective student must contact the Office of Residence Life by letter, e-mail, or fax, confirming they intend to live on campus with you. The student must have applied and received a formal acceptance from the University. Any student requesting an opportunity to live with an incoming first year student, a prospective transfer student, or a former JCU student is required to meet with Mrs. Perri, Housing Coordinator for Residence Life to receive approval to select on campus housing. Once approved, during your selection time you can choose an empty room in any hall that is available with the exception of the corner rooms in Campion and Hamlin Halls. Once you have selected housing and in the event that the student does not attend John Carroll University, or does not choose to live on campus, you will be placed with another student.
You wish to live with a registered JCU student that is currently off campus or commuting:
You should submit your Application with your intended roommate’s name in the space provided. If the JCU student currently living off campus or commuting ever lived on campus their semesters will be averaged into your semesters on campus. (Example: You wish to live with a student currently living off campus but lived on for 2 semesters. You are a rising junior with 4 semesters on campus. Your average number of semesters on campus is 3.)
The JCU off campus or commuting student should go to the Office of Residence life and complete a housing Intention card and indicate their intent to live on campus. The Office of Residence Life will register this information and they will receive a LIN number and have access to the on-line housing selection process.
You wish to live with a student currently studying abroad or interning:
You should submit your Application with your intended roommate’s LIN number in the space provided. Those students who were living on campus the semester prior to studying abroad or interning should count their semester away as a semester on campus. Hopefully the student that is abroad completed an Intention card and indicated their intent to live on campus. The Office of Residence Life will register this information and they will receive a LIN number and have access to the on-line housing selection process. In the event that the student does not choose to live on campus, you will be placed with another student.
You do not have a roommate for next year:
Only rising seniors may select a room without a roommate this is called Senior Privilege. Therefore, if you are a rising senior you should complete your Application indicating a double no roommate. In doing so you are agreeing to accept a roommate from any academic classification who does not have an intended roommate or one who is assigned to you from this office. During your selection time you can choose an empty room in any hall that is available with the exception of Bernet and the corner rooms in Campion and Hamlin Halls.
All others should follow the procedure below:
- Complete the application indicating double no roommate.
- Visit the Office of Residence Life periodically before your housing selection date and time, to check the preferences for a potential roommate.
- If you have not found a roommate by the close of the on-line housing selection process, you will need to contact Mrs. Perri, Housing Coordinator for Residence Life, at jcureslife@jcu.edu
If you submit your application declaring a roommate is needed and later you secure a roommate prior to the application deadline you can update your application. If you secure a roommate after the application deadline you should access the continuing student housing overview option within Bannerweb to make your changes. You will receive an email which will include a revised selection time for you and your roommate.
You have applied to be a Resident Assistant:
RA applicants will be notified if they have been awarded a Resident Assistant position on February 15. Please do not apply for housing until after you receive your notification.
You have applied to be a Resident Assistant and are an Alternate in that process:
If you are an alternate and plan to live on campus, regardless of the outcome of the RA selection process, you should go through the room selection process, which includes completing the on-line housing selection process on time. If you are selected and accept a position, we will do everything we can to help the person you were planning to live with find another roommate.
You have applied to live in a double without a roommate and you have now identified a roommate after the close date of the on-line housing selection process:
If you submit your application declaring a roommate is needed and later you secure a roommate after the application deadline of midnight on, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 you would access the Continuing Student Housing Overview in Bannerweb. You would change your selection from Double- No Roommate Chosen to Double with a continuing JCU student and provide their LIN number. Once you have changed the application you will receive an email with your new selection time.
You may have been assigned more then one room selection time:
This occurs when you have made more then one housing option on the Continuing Student Housing Application. The first room selection time will allow you to access the single or double options if you have selected a roommate with the same number of semesters on campus. The second room selection time would be based on the average number of semesters for the roommate pair.
