ON-LINE HOUSING PROCESS
Living with a roommate within a community of peers will allow
you to learn important life skills such as communication, problem
solving, and decision making. Acquiring these skills will make
you more marketable when you are interviewing with a potential
employer as well as help you develop personally. Take advantage
of this unique living and learning opportunity! National research
studies show that students who live on campus during their college
careers are more satisfied with their college experiences and:
- are more likely to be involved in campus life
including intramurals, social groups, and community service;
- are more likely to perform better academically than those
who live off campus;
- demonstrate higher graduation rates.
COMPLETE YOUR HOUSING PROCESS!
Getting Started: To access the Residence Life area of BannerWeb,
you must know your Banner ID and PIN number, which will be mailed
to you by the University Registrar. Once you receive this information
go to www.jcu.edu/BannerWeb to
login. Once you have completed your login, select Student Services
and Financial Aid, then Residence Life and then Review Housing
Contract.
STEP 1: Accept the housing contract.
You will review our housing contract online and accept the terms
of agreement. The majority of students will accept the contract
online. Please review the information prior to accepting the
housing contract. Once the housing contract has been accepted
it is binding for the academic year. You must accept the housing
contract before you can access the on-line housing process.
You should print a copy of the housing contract, as well as any
confirmation e-mails you receive throughout the housing application
process, for your reference throughout the year.
NOTE: If you are under
18 years of age you need to print and mail the housing contract
to the Office of Residence Life. You must sign your contract,
select a meal plan, and have a co-signature of either a parent
or guardian prior to mailing the contract. The Office of Residence
Life will e-mail you after the contract has been received to
allow access in order to complete the on-line housing process.
STEP 2: Complete your housing preferences.
You will complete a series of questions in this section that
identify preferences on items such as sleep time, study time,
musical tastes, and organizational behavior. The questions
were developed based on what we know is important to two people
who will be learning to live together. In order to provide
the best service possible, we ask that students – not
their parents – complete this section, and that students
be as honest as possible. You must accept your housing contract
before preference questions may be answered.
STEP 3: Make a specific roommate request (optional).
This process will allow you to place a roommate request for another
JCU student that has completed the online contract and preferences
by searching for them by name. It is very important to remember
that all roommates must have completed their online housing
preferences and that their core preferences must match in
order for the assignment to be granted. The preferences that
must match between each roommate/suitemate include: residence
hall preference, substance free floor, 24-hour quiet zone,
and student smoking preference. Often students meet someone
they would like to live with when they are at summer orientation.
To accommodate this, students can make a specific roommate
request until July 18, 2008, even if they have already completed
their housing preferences.
Once you have placed a roommate request an e-mail will be sent
to the JCU e-mail account of the potential roommate advising
them that a roommate request has been offered to them. They will
be required to accept or cancel the roommate offer using the
same “Roommate/Suitemate Selection Menu” option.
Please watch deadline dates carefully. If offers are pending
after the listed deadline they will be automatically cancelled.
Anyone without a requested roommate will be placed by the Office
of Residence Life.
STEP 4: Confirming your assignment.
You will receive an e-mail when your hall and room are assigned
by the end of July. You may then review more detailed information
about your hall, room, and roommate name and contact information
using the “Roommate Assignment Option” within
BannerWeb.
