SPECIALTY HOUSING
Entrepreneurs’ House
The Entrepreneurs’ House is a community in Murphy Hall that provides a unique living environment for students from any academic major who are interested in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. Students on this floor will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from Cleveland-area entrepreneurs as well as participate in special programming designed for the student who is interested in
exploring the concepts and ideas related to entrepreneurship.
Student residents are provided with a lounge, sponsored by the Entrepreneurs Association, for the student’s exclusive use. This area is equipped with computers and other tools to assist you in your search for knowledge in entrepreneurship.
If you are an incoming student interested in living on this floor, please select it on your housing application. If you do not have a roommate selected and wish to be matched with a roommate, you will likely be matched with another student requesting to live on this floor. If you do have a roommate you would like to live with, he/she must also request to live in the Entrepreneurs’ House community and request you as a roommate. Students will be placed on this floor by deposit date similar to the assignment process for all housing.

Substance-Free Floors
"Substance-free" floors have been established in the residence halls at John Carroll University at the request of residents in order to provide living environments that are free from the first and second hand effects of alcohol and other drug use. Therefore, a "substance-free" floor is defined as a living area for a community of students who have freely chosen to keep their environment void of illegal drugs and alcohol (regardless of age) at all times. The establishment of these floors should not be interpreted to mean that we endorse or ignore underage alcohol use or illegal drug use.
Additionally, the use of all tobacco products must take place outside of the building. While there will be Resident Assistants for these floors, the following guidelines are to be maintained by the people who choose to live in these communities:
- All living spaces, which include common areas and individual rooms, are to be free from alcohol and illegal drugs at all times. Additionally, the use of all tobacco products must take place outside of the building.
- At no time may a resident or guest (including parents, guardians, and alumni) be on the floor if intoxicated or disruptive as a result of alcohol or other drug use.
- Responsibility for notifying guests of these guidelines rests with the residents.
- Responsibility for guests complying with these guidelines rests with the residents.
- Unanimous agreement of the floor community, the residence hall staff, and the Assistant Director of Residence Life may add to these guidelines.
- Any resident of this community who violates this agreement will be removed from substance-free living (space permitting) by the Area Coordinator and relocated to another floor/building without a conduct hearing. There is no appeal on decisions of removal.
There are no designated floors for substance-free living. These floors are created based on the number of residents who request to live there. If we do not have enough people to fill a floor, we will try to cluster those students at the end of a hallway. We typically are able to fill at least one floor in every residence hall with students who request to live substance-free.
24-Hour Quiet Floors
24-Hour Quiet Floors are an option for students who would prefer to live in this environment. Other floors do have quiet hours, but those hours are 8:00 PM - 9:00 AM Sundays-Thursdays and 1:00 AM - 9:00 AM Fridays and Saturdays. There are no designated floors for 24-Hour Quiet Hours. These floors are created based on the number of residents who request to live there. If we do not have enough people to fill a floor, we will try to cluster those students at the end of a hallway.
