Executive Board: Job Descriptions

Executive Board officers, elected by the student body, have numerous responsibilities that keep them very busy. Read some of them below.

President

  • Serve as the official representative of the student body at all times, specifically for the Board of Directors, University Planning Group, and other university committees, and appoint individuals to serve on all other committees
  • Act as the chief executive officer of the Student Union, formulating official policy
  • Preside over the Student Union Senate, organizing advocacy committees and selecting their chairpersons, and signing an official copy of legislation passed by the Senate unless he or she exercises the right to veto
  • Supervise directly the actions of the Executive Board and lead executive retreats

Executive Vice President

  • Oversee the workings of the Communications Division
  • Maintain and distribute agendas and minutes of Senate and Executive meetings
  • Plan and promote the State of the Union Address and Inauguration Ceremony
  • Serve as the chief consultant to the President on all official matters
  • Maintain an updated copy of the Constitution and enforce its policies, as well as those set forth in Robert's Rules of Order to keep a structured Senate meeting

Vice President for Business Affairs

  • Prepare, present, and gain Senate approval of a fiscal year budget
  • Maintain an accurate account of all aspects of the SU budget and update the Senate and Executive Board as needed
  • Handle all check requests and purchase orders
  • Work with student organizations to explain Banner and check requests, and monitor the finances of these organizations

Vice President for Judicial Affairs

  • Act as the Chief Justice of the Hearing Board, ensuring a confidential and unbiased hearing process
  • Appoint justices to fill vacancies on the Hearing Board
  • Organize annual elections by appointing an Elections Committee Chairperson and attending committee meetings

Vice President for Student Organizations

  • Supervise student organizations and lead monthly LSO meetings to properly allocate Student Activity Fee funds
  • Appoint individuals to a Student Organization Review Board to help form policy, advertise events, and organize yearly awards
  • Facilitate voting for Organization, Person, and Advisor of the Year awards
  • Collect information from organizations and send daily root e-mails

Vice President for Programming

  • Oversee and lead the SUPB
  • Provide leadership for the long-term goals and strategy for SUPB and represent the organization in any official capacity
  • Develop (along with the Director of Events) a calendar of SUPB events, including dates, times, facilities, and cost
  • Facilitate (along with other Executive Board members) the officer transition process
  • Oversee the Directors of Events, Finance, Public Relations, and Publicity
  • Appoint chairpersons to and oversee major programming events
