CAMPUS MINISTRY LEARNING OUTCOMES

Forming the Faith Community – Members of the JCU community will be able to:

  • Understand the value of prayer and worship opportunities from diverse religious affiliations

  • Develop a greater understanding of the value of being open and accepting of diversity among classmates and colleagues.

  •  Value campus ministry’s diversity of retreat opportunities

  • Residential Students will be able to:

  • Understand the value of Resident Ministers as people who accompany them in their faith development and provide pastoral care.

Appropriating the Faith (Within the context of Ignatian Spirituality) – Passing on the biblical and theological richness of the Catholic and Ignatian tradition so that these concepts can become living realities in the lives of students.  It is our expectation that students engaged in Campus Ministry programs will be able to:

  • Adequately address the question: “What should a Catholic, theologically educated college graduate know about his/her faith?” “. . . About Ignatian Spirituality?”

  • Navigate and understand the Bible and Biblical principles.

  • Understand the value spiritual direction and spiritual directors and mentors.

  • Articulate an understanding of the Jesuit mission of JCU.

Educating for Justice – members of the JCU community will be able to:

  • Understand global issues in light of Catholic Social Teaching on justice and dignity

  • Understand the value of engaging in the larger community of Cleveland, the state of Ohio, and the nation with issues pertaining to faith and justice

Forming the Christian Conscience – students engaged in Campus Ministry programs will:

  • Increase their understanding of issues of personal values and ethics through discussion

  • Be able to articulate what it means to be at a Catholic and Jesuit university

  • Understand the intricacies of moral issues through opportunities for personal encounters, talks, homilies, panel presentations, seminars, retreats, and discussion groups about moral issues.

  • Understand the value of a community that is open to analytical thought in regards to faith and spirituality

  • Understand the process of discernment

Facilitating Personal Development – students will be able to:

  • Integrate their collegiate experience with their faith tradition

  • Understand themselves and the role that faith has in their life through prayer, pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, retreats, civic engagement, immersion experiences, CLCs, etc. . .

  • Identify the value of their spirituality, regardless of their theological tendencies, faith perspective, or religious affiliation

Leadership Development – students will be able to:

  • Identify their gifts and have opportunities to use them for the good of the community

  • Increase competency and confidence in their abilities through leadership opportunities

  • Discern their vocation in life

  • Prepare for their vocation in life
