SELF-CARE

There are many ways to maintain and enhance your emotional wellness. Below are some helpful suggestions for taking care of yourself.

  • Reach out to others, whether through your residence hall, campus organization, class, or community involvement.
  • Join campus organizations and clubs that appeal to you. These activities can help you meet and interact with others who share similar interests and/or may also be looking to meet friends.
  • Make time to rest, eat balanced meals, and exercise. Try to develop a manageable schedule that includes time for both work and play.
  • Remain flexible. Try to give yourself time to adjust to change.
  • Remember that relationships take time to develop.
  • Set attainable goals (long-term and short-term) and reward yourself on the way to reaching them.
  • Find ways to relax and make time for them. Schedule time for breaks if you need to.
  • Learn to say “no” and set healthy limits and boundaries in your relationships.
  • Be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone you care about.
  • Remember that your feelings will change eventually, and that you have not always felt this way and will not always continue to feel this way. Think about previous occasions when the intensity of the pain decreased and you began to feel better.
  • Define attractiveness on your own terms.
  • Develop your personal talents.
  • Express yourself.
