Migrating Content & Courses from Blackboard 8.0 to Blackboard Learn 9.1

1. Export the course from the old Blackboard 8.0 server.

  • Log into the old Blackboard 8.0 server (http://blackboard8.jcu.edu).
  • Enter the course you would like to export content from.
  • Click Export Course from the Control Panel.
  • Click Export from the Action Bar of the Export/Archive Manager page.
  • Select the course materials you would like to export.
  • After the Export Course page is submitted the system creates the Course package. When the package is complete, you will receive a confirmation email. Go to the Export/Archive Manager page in Blackboard and download the Course package to your local computer.
  • Once you have downloaded the Course Package to your local computer, delete the export (.zip) file from the Blackboard system.

2. Import the course package into the new Blackboard Learn 9.1 server.

  • Log into the new Blackboard 9.1 server (http://blackboard.jcu.edu).
  • Enter the course you would like to import content into.
  • From the Control Panel, under Packages and Utilities, click Import Package/View Logs.
  • Click Import Package.
  • Provide the path to the Course package or click Browse to search for the package.
  • Select the Course Materials to include.
  • Click Submit.

NOTE: Information Technology Services can also archive a course site for you. Archiving a course differs from exporting a course in that archive files include course content AND all user data (including the gradebook). This option may be a better choice when moving groups or organization sites over to the new server.
