Debate

John Carroll University's Debate team is a co-curricular activity open to all undergraduate students at the University. The program is designed to foster critical thinking, advocacy, research, listening and confidence. This is accomplished through participation in debate tournaments on both regional and national circuits. No prior experience is required.

Since we operate at four distinct levels (rookie, novice, junior varsity and varsity), there are many opportunities for students to participate regardless of skill level. The debate community does not distinguish between schools on the basis of the number of students, therefore we also have the opportunity to compete with students from many other institutions. For example, in the 2000-2001 school year, our team won debates against teams from Harvard, Dartmouth, Emory, Berkeley, Wake Forest, USC, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Texas and approximately 50 other institutions.

If you are interested in combining a tremendous educational experience -- including the opportunity to network with students and faculty from across the nation -- with the excitement of a competitive framework, please consider John Carroll Debate.

Debate is located in Room 60 of the O'Malley Center at (216) 397-4377.  Please contact either Dr. Brent Brossmann for more information regarding Debate.
