Dr. Karen Gygli, Professor, teaches theatre, as well as directs and supervises theatre productions at JCU. She received her B.A. from Ohio Dominican College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.
Dr. Gygli directed Marvin's Room in the fall of 2000, Anna Deavere Smith's Twilight, Los Angeles, 1992 in the Spring of 2000 and Ken Ludwig's Lend Me a Tenor in the fall of 1998, all at JCU. Recently, Dr. Gygli directed the world premiere of Communications colleague, Nancy Kiefer's drama, The Eighth Order.

She also directed Eight Impressions of a Lunatic, an original script by local playwright Sarah Murton, and A Clue in the Old Birdbath, a musical Nancy Drew spoof, for Red Hen Productions, and has received warm reviews in the Plain Dealer, The Scene, and The Free Times.
In November of 1998, she led an acting workshop at the Real Escuela Superior del Arte Dramatico in Madrid, Spain.
In the summer of 2000 she directed a staged reading of Faye Sholoton's, The Good Times as part of Dobama's Owen Kelly Adopt-a-Playwright staged reading series. She has enjoyed doing pre-show talks for the Great Lakes Theatre Festival, most recently for Twelfth Night. |
