In January 2006, after more than two decades of fine service to the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Joseph B. Miller, Associate Dean of the College, became Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts and Director of Summer Programs. In the half-time post as Director of Summer Programs, Dr. Miller will manage the University’s summer programming, including a review of summer programs, scheduling, and opportunities for increasing programming and revenue; short- and long-term marketing strategies; patterns of summer enrollment; and benchmarking among comparable institutions. Reporting to the Academic Vice President, Dr. Miller will offer recommendations for creative and effective change.

Dr. Miller was appointed Assistant Dean of the College in 1984 and Associate Dean in 1985, serving successively with Deans William Ryan, Fred Travis, and Nick Baumgartner. During 1993-94 and again in 1995-96, he served as Interim Dean of the Graduate School. As Associate Dean, Dr. Miller has taken primary responsibility for managing the CAS schedule, appointing part-time faculty, orienting new department chairs, and addressing student concerns, among many other responsibilities. He has also offered distinguished service to the Higher Learning Commission as a frequent outside program evaluator and chair of review teams.
He earned his B.A. from John Carroll University, his M.A. from Ohio University and his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
Before assuming an administrative position, Dr. Miller was Chair of the Department of Communications, and has also served as acting Dean of the Graduate School. In addition to writing several articles, Dr. Miller has served in the President's Executive Exchange Program at the U.S. Office of Education in Washington, D.C. |
