Department of Communications and Theater Arts

Course of Study

Two approaches to the degree are offered, Plans A and B. The choice between A and B should be based primarily on your career goals. If you view the M.A. as your final degree, Plan B, course work plus a research essay or creative project, may be more appropriate. If you plan further work at the doctoral level, Plan A, course work plus a thesis would be preferable.

The thesis/comprehensive exam combination in Plan A is good preparation for what is encountered in a doctoral program. Selection of Plan B does not exclude you from a doctoral program, however, should your goals change.

Plan A: 33 Hours - 27 hours plus 6 hours thesis and a comprehensive exam.
