VISION STATEMENT
The Department of Communication and Theater Arts at John Carroll
University aspires to be known for excellence in providing a variety
of opportunities in all forms of visual, oral, multimedia and written
communication and in personal attention to a diverse body of students.
MISSION STATEMENT
John Carroll University's Department of Communication and Theatre
Arts educates students to become critical thinkers trained in advocacy
and effective communicators able to integrate theory and ethical
principles in their professions while fostering awareness of diverse
cultures and developing communication styles and technologies.

The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts is
a nationally award-winning program concerned with the nature, process,
and practice of the art of communication.
Communication is studied from the viewpoints of interpersonal
relations, radio and television, film, multi-media, journalism,
public relations and organizational communication, rhetoric, public
address, speech science, theatre, and performance. In addition to
a major and minor, the department offers a concentration in Political
Communication and is part of the concentrations in Environmental
Studies and Perspectives in Sex and Gender.
Members of the department direct comprehensive programs
in debate, radio, television, journalism, and theatre. Facilities
include WJCU-FM radio station, the Marinello Little Theatre, Kulas
Auditorium, the Klein Television Studio, and the journalism writing
lab which are all available for use.
