Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
*A SANE is a registered nurse specially trained to provide medical care to sexual assault survivors. The sexual assault nurse examiner conducts medical forensic examinations and can serve as an expert witness. Other services that a SANE can provide include caring for your medical needs related to the assault, providing referrals, emergency contraception, preventative treatment for exposure to sexually transmitted infections, and educational presentations. All SANE examinations are conducted in a private area, without the need for a survivor to sit in a waiting area with other patients.
