In his First Year Seminar section this fall, Professor Paul Lauritzen assigned a paper modeled on the "This I Believe" series made popular by National Public Radio. The idea behind the series is to get ordinary citizens "writing, sharing, and discussing the core values and beliefs that guide their daily lives." Lauritzen asked his students to write 350-500 word essays on what they believe. Read and listen to some of the essays by clicking on the graphic to the left. |

“The entire John Carroll University community is deeply saddened by the loss of this distinguished alumnus. Tim exemplified the Jesuit Catholic mission. He lived by a simple philosophy – and that is, there is a world beyond yourself. Tim truly was a man for others. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said Rev. Robert L. Niehoff, S.J., John Carroll University president. |

Approximately 170 John Carroll students, faculty and staff rallied in late August for what one grateful recipient of their service called an Extreme Makeover of the Thea Bowman Center of Epiphany Catholic Church in Cleveland’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood. The group was involved in Streak Week’s community service project for (mostly) matriculating freshmen. Though there were a number of representatives from other classes, and a strong contingent of faculty and staff, the majority of volunteers were incoming freshmen taking their first steps in being men and women for others under a John Carroll banner. |
