JCU Debate Keeps Own Streaks Alive!

JCU Debate took two teams to James Madison University, November 3-5, 2006.  Both teams went 4-2 in the preliminary rounds and were seeded 4th and 5th in the 20 team tournament.  

Unfortunately, the teams were pitted against each other in the quarterfinal round.  Rachel Cope & Brian Brossmann advanced over Jane Killian & Anthony Miranda due to the former’s higher seeding (more speaker points).  

Killian & Miranda’s 5th place finish was their third top 5 (and fourth top 10) finish in five tournaments. Individually, Jane Killian was 7th in the 40 debater field. Cope & Brossmann advanced to the semis, where they were defeated by the eventual champions from Liberty University.  Their third place finish was the highest yet for Cope & Brossmann, and their fifth consecutive top 10 finish to start their careers. Individually, Brossmann was 6th and Cope 15th.

This was the second consecutive week that these two teams finished 3rd and 5th at a tournament, and the second consecutive weekend they’ve met in the quarterfinals. The only difference was that the teams flipped places. The four new top 10 awards runs JCU’s total to 34 through five tournaments this season.
