Study Abroad in East

CHINA
John Carroll University students participate in the Jesuit
Colleges Beijing Center program in China.
The Beijing Center is a consortium of Jesuit institutions that is
housed at the University of International Business and Economics.
Regular excursions throughout China and Beijing enhance this study
abroad experience. Coursework can be
taken in business, literature,
sociology, and many other areas.
Semester, year long, or summer
options are available.

"CHINA SUMMER INSTITUTE" STUDY TOUR
John Carroll University organizes a "China Summer Institute" study tour once every other year. During the Tour, students visit different cities in China to study its culture, history, politics, society, environmental crisis, etc. and to do their research projects. The next "China Summer Institute" study tour will take place in May 2011.

JAPAN
John Carroll University has exchange relationships with
three universities in Japan.
Sophia
University in Tokyo is a Jesuit institution with an international
division in which liberal arts and business courses are taught in
English. Each year, up to five students are exchanged. Sophia University
also offers a summer program.
Nanzan
University in Nagoya is a Catholic university with a special
program in Japanese Studies which emphasizes intensive language
and cultural training. Students at Nanzan University often live
with Japanese families.
Kansai
Gaidai University, located between Kyoto and Osaka, offers an
Asian Studies curriculum in an American-style semester format. Students
live with Japanese families or in student housing.

"POPULAR CULTURE IN JAPAN " STUDY TOUR
John Carroll University organizes a "Popular Culture
in Japan" study tour once every other year.
Participating students must take HS 297a/ML 299a or have comparable
background with permission of the instructors. Study tour participants
have to register for SC 299k.
