MEETING MINUTES FOR:

OPEN MEETING – BETA CHI CHAPTER, CHI SIGMA IOTA

February 21, 2005

 

 

I.        COMMITTEE REPORTS

A.      WELLNESS CONFERENCE- Chairs: Dawn Palsa, Eva Cirincione, Katie Kugelman

1.       CSI Poster Presentation @ ACA Conference

·         we need people to work on the poster, but don’t have to attend the conference

2.       Wellness conference – Raised approximately $1000 for the scholarship fund

3.       Need committee members

4.       Info. on next year’s conference: Kerrie Cirino, committee chair

·         Title: “Healing the Whole Person”.  11/19/05.  Speakers will include Dr. Joan Fox (Cleveland Clinic) and Sister Jennifer Corlett (psychologist).

·         Conference will include Breakout Groups with 3 or 4 different speakers including: Steven Adams (Energy Therapy), Holly Queen-Doherty (Art Therapy), Susan Caddy (Movement Therapy/ Tai Chi), and possibly Tria O’Mally (Dance Therapy).

 

B.      AWARDS – Chair: Molly Barnard

1.       Won the “Outstanding Individual Program” and “Outstanding Website” awards

2.       Need chair and committee members for next year

·         The chair explained the duties involved including paperwork, getting people to write recommendation letters for the chapter, and she explained that this position is done by 12-1.

3.       Start implementing/modifying the awards program outlined on the CSI website?

 

C.      NEWSLETTER / WEBSITE – Chair: Matt Orlousky

1.       Published twice last semester, will publish twice this semester (general issue and graduation issue)

2.       Completed email conversion for $ savings

3.       Need articles for this semester’s first issue – email me: orlo@west-point.org

·         Articles need only be a few paragraphs in length and can be from any variety of topics.

4.       Deadline #1: March 1st (published in mid-March)

5.       Deadline #2: May 1st (published just before graduation)

6.       http://www.csi-betachi.org

·         Need more people to visit the website.  We discussed some ways of marketing the website (pens with website address, e.g.)

7.       Need a chair and committee members for next year

 

D.      SOCIAL EVENTS & FUNDRAISING – Chairs: Bridgett Kilbane & Morgan Sprosty

1.       Walk for Beta Chi

·         Sat. 4/16 (Rain Date 4/23) 9 a.m. until 11 or so.

·         Will be held at the Metro Parks in the Valley (West Park Entrance).  We will hand out a map in classes.  This is for members, non-members, friends, family and faculty.  Refreshments and food will be served after the walk

·         Donations of at least $5 as a donation for Beta Chi to be used for support funds.  Will start collecting donations on 3/14 and you can give them to Morgan, Bridgette, or Joan

2.       Canned food drive – 200 cans donated to St. Augustine’s

3.       Chairs and committee members for next year, particularly next Spring

4.       Idea about trying to raise money for troops was suggested.  Maybe do a scavenger hunt with $10 donations for the troops.

 

E.       MEMBERSHIP – Chair: Julie Minarczik

1.       Committee sent out about 50 letters inviting students to join Beta Chi.

2.       As of now, we have 83 active members

3.       Collect $ from eligible members wishing to join

·         Committee discussed that members joining for first time pay $45.  If you are already a member, you pay $10 to Beta Chi, and $35 to the national Chi Sigma Iota. 

·         If you are already a member, you can just give a check made out to JCU for the full $45 to Joan or Matt and be covered for both the chapter and national dues

4.       Julie will mail induction invitations (NLT Mid-March)

5.       Susan will make up a flyer with all of the spring semester event dates and deadlines and have then distributed to the classes.

 

F.       INDUCTION – Chair: Susan Hayes

1.       Induction Ceremony will be held on Fri. 4/29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30p.m. in the Jardine Rm.

·         Speaker will be Christi Berardinelli, LPCC from Crossroads.  She will be speaking about “things people don’t tell you before you start counseling”.

2.       Order plaques – Gino’s Jewelers

3.       Order food

4.       Create program for the event

·         Registration, Hors D’oeuvres, speaker, awards, inductions, vote for new officers, introduce new officers, etc.

5.       We need volunteers to work at the ceremony.  Help out with name tags, seating people, etc.

 

II.      INTERNSHIP PANELS

A.      Community Counseling

1.       Date – February 23 at 5:00pm in AD54

2.       Matt Orlousky (CCF), Susan Hayes (Laurelwood), Julie (B-W Counseling Ctr)

B.      School Counseling

1.       Date – March 3 at 4:30pm in AD2XX

 

III.   ERRATA

A.      Matt – Will attend the annual CSI Business Meeting in Atlanta, GA à will report back to chapter on the proceedings in the graduation issue of the newsletter

B.      PCLE prep class – video in library for checkout soon

C.      Beta Chi Scholarship

1.       Applications are online – Due to Dr. Faiver’s office by April 1st.

D.      AY05-06 Officer Positions

1.       Open officer positions: Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary

2.       Intent to run forms can be printed online – Must be in to Dr. Faiver’s office by April 1st.

E.        “Mental Health Awareness Days”

1.       March 2 & 3 – what can Beta Chi do to help?

·         Can present mental health info at a booth, or just be there for support

·         Presentations:

-3/1 @ 7 p.m. in LSC Conference Room: Recovery Inc.- “Self Help Strategies and Support”

-3/2 @ 8 p.m. in Dolan Auditorium: Mrs. Ohio, Carrie Layne- speaks about her struggle with an eating disorder

2.       Amy Scherzinger – JCU Counseling Center
